Car impounded for no insurance, was told by insurance company that we were insured

MID is simply a guidance and from what you are telling us, the officer used that as the only basis to impound you're car on top of which clearly refused to speak with the insurance company directly.
I have been in similar situation 2 years ago. It cost me £270 to release the car and around 2 years trying to get the money back with no compensation. My pain does not need to be repeated so when you do pay and have the car released let me know as I know EXACTLY who to contact DIRECTLY to get you're money back.
All being well with the licence and dvla, we should be picking the car up tomorrow at a fee of £300 so I willl definately be taking you up on that offer. If I can I will PM you my email address so you cam guide me through the process if you are still willing to do so

the OP OH will have to attend court anyway, unless the police officially drop the charge of driving without third party cover, (in10). fill in the rear of the form, to attend court. and send off get a solicitor, and get a copy of that insurance you took out when buying the car asap, then you will be sent court papers, here you submit your defense, it may get quashed upon recieving the evidence. either case pleading not guilty to the offence drags the officer to attend court to give evidence i would like to see him justify his actions infront of a judge.0

If the police officer thought that the partner was the 'other person' and was disqualified and wanted for motoring offences, he would have been arrested.
It is possible that the other person has had his licence revoked by DVLA, and the police officer, mistaking the partner for him, didn't bother checking with the insurance company because he assumed that a revoked licence meant 'no insurance', so he seized the car, and it wasn't the partner's licence that was 'suspended' - it was the other person's.0 -

Who informed the insurer the licence was invalid? The insurer wouldn't have access to the dvla database.0 -

I sincerely hope that this is the case! It would prevent any further hassle with the dvla in any case!0 -

If the police have not gone to the bother of contacting the insurance company then what has happened to the insurance that was taken out when purchasing the car? Or have you contacted them and explained the situation?0 -
What insurance have you now?
Sorry, meant Tuesday not tomorrow!
We will hopefully have insurance in place on Tuesday depending on what the dvla say about the licence. If not, temporary insurance will be taken out by my dad or by another relative to take to the station and then to the impound lot to collect the car.
At £50 a day, we will not be leaving the car there longer than Tuesday as on top of £150 fine we have been charged all weekend regardless of the fact that the impound is shut all weekend and for the bank holiday!
We have no insurance at the moment due to it becoming invalid when the officer suspended his licence as he was then no llonger a licence holder technically. We had insurance right up to that point from 10 am that morning and were told by the insurance company that he was free to drive away after specifically asking if it had all gone through!0 -

As I and others have said, there is something not quite right here. You are coming across as being genuine with genuine concerns. Can I ask, where you there? Or are you getting the story third hand from your boyfriend?0
