So what was the final outcome of this story then? Does the op have the car back and the mistaken ID and licence sorted out or are we going to be left in the lurch with yet another unfinished tale that so urgently needed our advice?
Come on Op, tell us what has happened.0 -

Come on Op, tell us what has happened.
I did reply further up
we got the car back, cost £150 presumably no extra charges were put on due to the bank holiday weekend so it wasn't open.
The licence and identity issues were sorted when we went down to the dvla offices to change the address on Friday.
Feels like a bad dream still but working on claiming the money back now and he had the insurance documents back to take to the dvla offices on Friday so he doesn't have to face court or and fines it points now which is great!
We're still £150 out of pocket but hopefully we'll get that back soon!0 -

Why do you need to take the insurance to the dvla? Surely it should be the police station.0 -

Maybe because the DVLA suspended the licence through lack of Insurance and he could prove he had insurance so they should not have done.
It was already said on here numerous times and that only the DVLA could suspend the licence.0 -

They can only do that upon conviction.0 -
I recently changed insurance company when my renewal cost was extortionate I pay through direct debit and always check the amounts go out ... Last Thursday I got stopped as the car was not showing any insurance I was given a producer and told to check my documents I was flabbergasted .... Anyway on closer inspection of my documents one digit of my number plate had been incorrectly printed and so it was not showing as insured I phoned the insurance company and changed it immediately. I was told by the police to wait for my new certificate to show the error had been corrected. On sat my partner drove my car half a mile (he has his own fully comprehensive insurance on another vehicle which covers him to drive mine third party) he was stopped by police who said there was no insurance on the car and that he wasn't insured either so they impounded my car. Anyway both my partner and I went to the police station proved that the car and he was insured and that the car should not have been impounded .... Fine we got the car back but we had to pay £170 to get it back and the police say I am liable for that cost ..... How can that be I was insured my partner was insured ..... Not happy at all0

He has the paper counterpart so don't know where you think I'm lying or why you think they were right to impound! They impounded it as whether they thought he had insurance or not, they suspended his licence as they thought he was someone else so therefore didn't have a licence to drive home with and was not offered a hort1!
No lies here. Unfortunately all of this is very true and had caused a lot of stress and sleepless nights. We can do without comments like that at this stressful time!
Just lucky I guess that my dads new job doesn't start for another week so my partner can have lifts with him until he changes the address on his licence on Friday. We have been told by dvla we can get insurance today with no issues but just to be on the safe side we are waiting until Friday as we don't need anymore stress after the last few days!
Erm.... the point is the policeman didn't suspend the license. A Police constable cannot.
What he did was confiscate or seized it (physically). Hence your husband was never uninsured.
Had your original post not been made under your obvious stress you might have seen the difference.
What can be learned is that in legal matters words matter a LOT.
You missed quite a bit of good advice due to failure to recognise the words. That aside.... in terms of compensation and complaints it is critical to put the correct words.
The policeman should have called the insurers in any case but someone somewhere also used the wrong terminology.
The matter would have been resolved a lot quicker and with a lot less stress if you got the EXACT words and Terminology.0 -
We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

Did your partner show the police his car insurance certificate or your car insurance certifcate when he was stopped?0
