one of these (and I'm leaning towards the former)0 -
I think what happened you OH got some motoring conviction which couldnt be pursued as the licence had an incorrect address. or didnt have a full licence to start with.
You dont have 6 months legally to change address. It should be done right away just incase they need to contact you. eg. to say you have a ticket and need to add points but they cannot so are suspending his licence until they can.

Well, the op said it flagged up as no insurance
How about the car's previous owner had cancelled the insurance because he/she is not driving it?
I collected a car for my daughters partner as he had no insurance, the owner cancelled the insurance the next day as even though I can drive other cars on my policy the car has to be insured. The MIB wasn't updated because they take time to do it so it would show up as no insurance.
OP I'd give up on here, to many people sticking knives in now probably because you missed a full stop or comma out on your other posts.0 -

Which is a valid reason to stop. Nothing beyond that seems to have followed any acceptable procedure though.
Hopefully tomorrow will get it all sorted.0 -
I traveled down to Southampton on Friday to view a car I was interested in buying the car was great, but it was not taxed or insured and sorned,so could not be driven on a public road,so agreed the price which was heavily discounted(due to being unable to test drive)phoned my insurers asked for a 7 day additional car cover and the insurance documentation was emailed to my smart phone 15 minutes later, printed these off using the sellers printer then went down to the local post office and taxed the car and drove home....all this done in 90 minutes drove 110 miles home and did not get stopped once.:)0

I've driven a few on my DOC extension, and a few I've just bought that haven't shown up as insured. I've never been stopped.
I think you just need to be unlucky, and find some policeman that doesn't want to know, and if it's not on the database that's it.
Thankfully, there is comeback for that "computer says no" attitude.0 -
We bought a fiat doblo wheel chair accesible vehicle to take my mum out in (alzheimers and wheelchair bound) I insured it for me and hubby as name drive. My Sisters partner phoned his insurance company (he's fully comp) who confirmed could drive it 3rd party on his insurance. First (and only time) he drove it was 3 weeks after we purchased it. He was pulled over by police as was coming up not insured on his computer. He sat in the police car but after policeman made a call it was confirmed insured and he was ok to go on his way.0

its not that poeple are being dowright nasty its that the sitution is unique and many cant comprehend why this has happened, and the wording used is third hand as its gone from police to OH to OP and i think a miunderstanding of what was said has occured aswell.
a wanted man doesnt get let go with a hort1 he gets arrested this is what im hanging up on and cant comprehend what this copper was trying to acheive.0 -
Also to the OP keeps saying they suspended the licence there and then, Which as mentioned they cannot do at the side of the road no matter how many phone calls they make. Desk sergeant or anyone else.
So we can only assume that the licence had already been suspended. And they shouldnt have been driving.
They failed to update the address on the licence which adds to my thinking on this theory.
Or the OP's other half is a liar and didnt have a licence in the 1st place?
Only he and the policeman will know i guess.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
He doesn't have a licence?! How else would be have been paying insurance?! The last cas insurance was paid direct debit out of my account as was the motorbike when he had it. So will this car when we get it back!
It was suspended one way or another. Neither of us truly understand how given the information you guys have given that a policeman cannot do this.
The policeman said himself that it was fine that the licence address hadn't yet been changed as we have only just moved home abs dvla allows 6 months for this info to be updated. We will find out tomorrow what will or has happened to his licence and hopefully find out who did it in the first place! I will update with the details as and when we get them!0
