Am asking on behalf of DD and her partner who signed up for BT for Broadband, BT Vision and home phone thinking that was who they had to use. Am I reading it correctly that they can get out of their contract early (it runs until September next year) with no penalties just by writing to BT:o
  • Hello! We are leaving the UK for a while and need to terminate our BT contract. Obviously we wish to pay as little as we can manage. Would it be possible to stop the contract and then terminate because of the price rise (which we would definitely do if we were staying)? How would I go about doing this? I actually feel outraged that they are increasing their prices yet again.

    Thank you.

You can reject the increase within 10 days of notification. but you will then lose your service after the notice period.
But if you are returning you will then have to pay for a reconection. The rack rate for that is £130.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Can anyone help with the format of a letter or email to BT re cancelling the contract due to the increases. Thanks in advance.
  • Thank you for your reply. Does that mean the service will stop before January? Does it stop as soon as you say you want it to stop? When will the notice come out?

Thank you very much again, and I'm sorry for all the questions.

    Any tips.

Broadband I am on legacy O2 package 4.25/month (9.50 and normally 6 months in 12 free on renewal, unlimited data, no traffic shaping only 8mbs but this is all the line can take) and on BT pay in advance £120 with free weekend and evening

I was on the exact package as u mate with both o2 and bt.
I have absolutely had enough of BTs contant price rises and just today I have signed up for sky line rental for £3 a month and unl broadband free for 6 months then £7.50 for next 6.

I was in 2 minds at first about loosing my o2 standard legacy package which I have been on for years, but when comparing it with sky unl broadband its exactly the same and a little cheaper. The the price difference in line rental is massive.

I would reccomend you go for this deal if u already got sky tv.
(p.s also which I have on a half price 12 month deal)

Yes I know its gone upto £14.50 a month. Because I haggled a little and have had sky for 8 years he offered it for £3 a month.

Best thing is my BT line rental saver I paid last year ends on 1st Oct next month, which is fine but my o2 broadband contract does not finish till december this year I mention this to the sky advisor and he also credited me with £30 onto my account (sort of like buying me out of my contract with o2).

So to round up i'm paying the following spread over 12 months:
    Sky line rental - £3 a month
    Sky Broadband - £3.75
    Sky Tv ent - £10.75
Total £17.50 for all 3 services

(just wish there was some way we could also haggle with our tv licence) lol
  • Has anyone received notification from BT of the price rise yet? I'm keen to cancel my contract if I can, so have been keeping an eye out for an email or letter.
