Having read all the posts, it is made very clear BT are ripping us off.

My biggest moan is all the "little extras" for paying bills (if not on Direct Debit) AND not everyone can take advantage of the Annual Payment for line rental. Unless you have a PC you are excluded.
I am somewhat fortunate that my current contract expires in November, and I shall be looking very closely at the competition, as i find the quality of option 1 is becoming miserably slow and constantly 'drops'
Fibre was not much better as copper was inline for part of the cable route.

I recently signed for another 12 month contract with BT after they gave me an offer I found reasonable (going from £44 per month to just under £30). Will the price rise affect me since this is a price we agreed upon?

    thanks..

After reading about the price rises I called BT to ask how I would be affected come 5 Jan 2013. I'm some 10 months into my 18 month contract. I was told that my payments would not go up in January, but remain the same until the end of my contract. I paid the 'Line Rental Saver' which is due to expire in November, so I'll have to decide then whether to plump for a further 12 months line rental or just pay the line rental on a monthly basis, and then review which ISP provider to go for at the end of my current contract next April.

Perhaps the BT Company Representative might like to pass comment on this?

If you were already contracted with LRS, then the only thing that will increase is the cost of any calls package you have on top.

When there is a problem that needs sorting, users will find B.T. Sheffield (Plusnet) a very bad little company. most information pages are either wrong or out of date, which when added to their chaotic systems doesn't give their customer services a chance of a decent service. Also, this "Honest" company employ some very shifty methods, which they refuse to alter no matter how many customers they upset.
To see one example, check out the 'PN Market 2 Charges' thread in the thinkbroadband Plusnet forum. Search for 4148371

Looks like the BT boys are out in force:D

So plusnet are owned by BT
What about telephone lines that post office use.. they're owned BT too aren't they?

All I know is that the plusnet 10 gig limit per month works pretty well for my mum at a £5 a month.
Contrasting vastly with the crappy home hub !!!!!!!! that they were selling a couple of years ago at £60 a month, half the time it didn't work and was locked into BT anyway. F*cking !!!!!.

You'll be looking for new jobs soon :Tso I guess that's why you plant posters suddenly appear!

    Any tips.

Broadband I am on legacy O2 package 4.25/month (9.50 and normally 6 months in 12 free on renewal, unlimited data, no traffic shaping only 8mbs but this is all the line can take) and on BT pay in advance £120 with free weekend and evening (freebie exrtra) calls and use 1899 etc if I do have to make chargeable daytime calls and inclusive mobile minutes to call mobiles.

BT renewal is now 129 (10.75) or I could go to primus for £9.19 for same service but would lose caller ID display? Any other options? I probably don't use the free evening/weekend calls very much and could use 1899 probably with sametotal monthly cost. I also use 0844 services to call abroard where the set up fee per call may be an issue for calls where you don'tget through.

    Thoughts?
    I think....

You have a very good mix.

Don't try to fix something that ain't broke (except, possibly, consider 18185 instead of 1899 and use that for your daytime UK calls and instead of 0844 providers for your overseas calls).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • second contract started june2012)
they state in contact about visonbox would I have to pay £199.00 back if I cancel
had box one year from last contract

:((other problem incorrect bills) charging double broadband and any time calls

    thanks
  • My BT contract (Broadband and Calls) ends in December, with the price rises obviously not coming into effect until January.

Does anyone know if I am still entitled to cancel my contract early without incurring charges?

I am on the same package but pay £9.50 (which I am quite happy with), do they give you 6 months free every year if you ring up? I am always wary that they may switch me onto one of those crappy modern packages if I do that.

No, because no price increase has taken place during the minimum term.
