Macman..this is from BTs conditions..
21.Once we have provided the service, you may tell us to stop providing it at any time by giving us 30 days' written notice, either by email to any email address we may have given you or by letter to the address on your last BT bill or any other address we have given you, for that purpose. If you are switching to another provider through an approved process, the notice you must give us will be 14 days. We can stop providing the service to you by giving you 28 days' written notice.
Signed up for Sky Oct 3 their service starts 17 Oct ......14 days ?0 -

That's crazy. I phoned cancellations to tell them that I rejected the price increase and wanted to cancel. I told them I'd be moving to Sky and specifically asked for the closing balance which he confirmed was zero. I haven't heard a peep from BT except an SMS telling me they're sorry to see me go.
My Sky service goes live on the 19th, I hope I'm not going to get a surprise from BT like you...0 -
I guess Sky,s price increase was enough.:D
Hehe, well they're all at it nowadays, energy & mobile companies in particular. One nudges up their prices, the others follow suit very closely. It's pretty much impossible to avoid, the only way to keep ahead is to analyse your individual usage and switch to the most appropriate. Which is what I'm doing with Sky - unlimited broadband & international calls so it will suit my particular usage better than BT ever could
Anyway, I think I spoke too soon. I had a letter waiting for me at home from BT that states they want £100 early termination charge from me for switching to another provider, they can whistle.0 -
Just a quick update to say that I contacted BT and they said that the letter is automated as part of the cancellation process. I was told that there are no cancellation charges on my account and that my final bill will reflect this when I get it on the 19th.0

I still don't have notification of the price increase...I always check my spam folder & I've seen nothing!?
Has everyone got the email now? Should I just call up & say I've just got it & hope for the best?
Could really do with cancelling as I've just been made redundant
Wondering how to have a life & not rack up more debts...0 -
Can someone give me advice please. I am 6 months into my 12 month BT contract and received an email last week to advise of price increases. I've just phoned BT to cancel as I have got an Orange deal at just over £10 per month less and have been told if I want a MAG code (migration code) I would be charged over £100 to settle the account as I am not cancelling but transferring. Also, if I do completely cancel I will still be charged £30 to disconnect the broadband.
Is this correct? I cant believe how nasty the girl on the phone got when I tried to explain to her I was leaving; has made me want to leave even more now.0 -
I had been waiting for ages for my email, so I requested a paper letter from BT last week.
After this turned up, I called the cancellation team to reject the increases. It was surprisingly easy, apparently there will be no charges incurred and I came off the phone with my MAC code.
My final bill will be generated 2 weeks after the switch over.
After reading the other posts, I thought an update would be helpful to let people know the process is still ongoing with BT.0
