BT 2013 price increases

I would not have a problem with Bt if it was unlimited like Sky and AOL but they are out to squeeze every penny they can.
There are loads of complaints about accuracy of how they "estimate" daily usage of broadband, with many suspecting that it's an attempt to get people to upgrade...
This company has a shocking PR department and seems reluctant to put anything in writing and makes us put up with a sub standard call centre in the far east...0 -
No sign of the MSE online BT rep when they could be helpful.:D0

No Afrayed Knot Paul and anyone else that might ask !:D
"Will I be refunded any of my Line Rental Saver payment if I leave BT?
No, your Line Rental Saver payment is non-refundable."

and thats made clear to you when you sign up for it,as macman points out.0 -
i recived letter from them bout price in creese and only mt line rental was going up not internet so i culd only termanate the line rental free and pay to cancel internet i asked to be put throu to manager after being on hold for 15 min i decided that the call opertator had just put me on hold but what he forgot was when he answered i always ask for there name and eather a extention number or some way or identifying them "incase i get cut off" more like incase they are rude/not playing fair
so i put phone down rang back asked for manager straight way got one in 2 seconds explained what happend and how i though it wasnt fair i culd only cancel one free as you need phone line to operrate internet and how id been treated and he agread and cancled free of charge internet and phone so some times may be its beter to by pass the call center staff and go straight to the decition maker0 -
Is it within my remit to place an order with another phone line, broadband and call provider (essentially ending my BT services, all of which are going up in price) and inform BT that I am doing this as a direct result of their price rises (therefore avoiding early cancellation charges) as opposed to simply cancelling with them?
As per these MSE forumista's recommendations from the last time BT increased their prices:NittyGritty wrote: »i was told once you get notifaction you have a 10 day time frame to cancel, if you wish to move to another provider(home phone line) you need to contact 02 or whoever your with and initate the move, you then need to contact BT to let them know your moving so they make a note on thier systems not to charge you a penalty fee when o2 take over.(make sure contact BT stating 1,your moving to whoever,2.you wont get charged penalty, basically make sure you get them to confirm no penalty charges will be applied once you move ,and keep a copy of thier reply) just to cover yourselfNittyGritty wrote: »yes its 10 days from when u get notifacation , if you want to switch to someone else then you need to let bt know that your switching so they remove the penalty charges, once the switch as taken place, they will then send you a final bill, or take it as direct debit as normalNittyGritty wrote: »this is the one i got reply from, good luck
this is the reply i had from them
Dear *****,
Thank you for your email.
I am so sorry that you have found it necessary to complain to BT.
I can confirm that you are able to terminate your BT account without charge due to the December changes. The time frame for you to be able to do this begins from the date of your next bill (13/11/11) for 10 days. You will need to contact us within this time frame to let us know you wish to transfer your service away from BT, we can then place the order for your service to be stopped. A final bill is issued to you 14 days after your service is stopped.
If you wish to transfer your service to an alternative supplier you can make arrangements for this during the timeframe I have explained, you would then need to contact us to let us know that you have done this so we can ensure that you are not billed early termination charges.
Thank you for contacting BT.
Yours sincerely,
Samantha Vickers

they also gave me my MAC code without problem. Switched to another company already for half the cost and some freebies thrown in to boot
But with this one caveat:Thanks for the replies, much appreciated
Having sent a further email to BT stating that there was an increase to the line rental and the broadband I have received this reply :
Thank you for your email dated 05/12/2011.
I am very sorry to hear that you wish to leave BT. Is there anything we can do to retain your custom?
If you would like to cancel the account, please reply to this email and I will arrange for the account to be ceased and the early termination charges for your package to be waived.
Further savings can also be made if you subscribe to BT's Line Rental Save offer. This would be a one off payment of £120.00 by either debit or credit card. Thereafter over the next 12 months you would not see any line rental charges on your account which is currently a saving of £46.80 a year. To be eligible for this offer you must pay your BT account by direct debit and sign up to our paper free billing. All this can be done online.
I must make you aware that you will receive a wholesale cease charge of £30 for termination of the Broadband service.
This is what it costs BT Retail to send an engineer to the exchange to physically stop the customer’s broadband from being provided by BT any longer.
Please note that BT do require 30 days notice for the cancellation of service.
Thank you for contacting BT.
Can I just check that the £30 termination fee is correct or are they trying it on LOL ?
Thanks again
Mirandasly_dog_jonah wrote: »If you are actually stopping rather than transferring your broadband to another provider then yes BT can charge the £30 fee. If you are moving your broadband to someone else, then you need to request a MAC code from BT, which you then provide to the new provider during sign up. This would then avoid the £30 charge.
many thanks in advance.0 -
I'm off to the US on Wednesday for 13 nights and will be watching my e-mails whilst away...Getting away from Bt would be like Christmas coming early!
My last bill was Aug 25 s should be due around when i get back0 -
Sky Talk and Orange Homephone have recently upped their prices followed by BT and now followed by Plusnet. You can bet that those that havent done so will follow shortly.0

A quick call to BT Retention will get you a deal that evades the price increases. Don't just sit on any old plan, call up and get yourself a better deal.
BT's Line Rental Saver will remain the same cost even though the monthly Line rental cost is going up, which makes it a good option.0
