Thank you both, I have checked my BT account and can see by paying upfront for a year I can reduce my costs on that account and probably seek a retention deal with an anytime call package, which of course is my prerogative.

Although I have made no definite decision, I have to say I am not happy to hand my land line over to Orange.
The fact that this seems to be their key objective, and the way this whole scenario has played out leaves me feeling very suspicious of their ulterior motive.

I take on board the 'material' detriment aspect of it all but it is only under duress we have manged to get them this far, and what of the (1,000's) that have just 'rolled over'?

Very unethical tactics in my view, will they give each of us written contracts?........think I would want mine written in blood lol......even then I am unsure if I would have enough faith to continue to pay such a company.

All that being said, I will keep an open mind and research some more.

montage 3G is as much use as a handbrake on a canoe on my phone!

    .............

SHHHHH you do know Orange read this thread.. dont give them any more ideas of offers they can force on us!!
  • We should be entitled to free broadband until the end of our contracts like originally offered. After this point if the offer is withdrawn its withdrawn. So its unlikely we will get anything other that what is stated on their website, or dare i say it something may be offered as an incitement to upgrade with them.

I'm afraid the free broadband for life will never stand, and it will never be free again as its actually just hidden in the line rental costs.

What ever deal is being done now is due to the miss selling that has obviously been happening. Nothing to do with the actual removal of the service as its in the T&C's it can be withdrawn.

At the end of the contract we are no more than just that, not in contract. So technically it would be actually better to take out a longer contract at £14 per month with free calls included, as after 12 months it'd more than likely revert to £14 without the calls, or even increase. It may also go down, but anybody who's tried to get a deal on their gas or electric will already know that feeling.
  • If you move your landline to orange are you then unable to use any broadband provider than orange? And assuming they lock you into a long landline contract you are then stuck exclusively with orange broadband as well, plus orange mobile if you want the broadband discount.

Whereas with a bt line you can move to almost any broadband provider or upcoming fiber offer relatively easily.

Not to mention all the 18185 and discount call providers tend to need a bt line.

Or do I misunderstand the offer?

I have just spoken to the Exec office, again after not receiving my call back within 72 hours.

I was told that there are only around 100 complaints that have been escalated through Ofcom out of 70,000 people that would have been affected by this.

They highlighted that they are offering deals based on the material detrement rules, which are set out by ofcom or trading standards (who knows?!). That is to say, if you are going to be paying more than you currently do under your current home picked deals (whether you have free evening weekend calls, or broadband, or a fixed term pre-paid land line contract), they will offer discounts to ensure the new deal is not going to cost you anymore. You can also push the higher call charges from Orange (say, compared to BT).

The moral of the story: Don't just read this thread - start your own complaint, start your own journey ;)

    This is moneysavingexpert, after all.

Will - You say that your promised Orange call back has not materialised after 72 hours.

Hence, I respectfully suggest not placing too much store in the veracity of anything else Orange say. Orange tell you that '100 complaints have been progressed through Ofcom, out of 70,000 affected customers'. Well, they told me that 100,000 customers were affected, and I didn't believe that either !

In the 1960's Profumo trial at the Old Bailey, it was alleged that witness Mandy Rice-Davies offered 'personal' services to the more lascivious members of the then Government. When counsel informed Rice-Davies that those accused of receiving her services strongly refuted all allegations, her time honoured response was .... "well they would say that wouldn't they".

Likewise, when Orange state that only a minimal number of customers are progressing their case through Ofcom, my retort is .... "well they would say that wouldn't they".

Modern day corporate behaviour is frequently found to be amoral and reprehensible. If it is not the telecom providers, it is the banks, or the energy providers, or the insurers. I am old enough to remember an age when there was no need of the CAB, MSE, a myriad of regulators, and daily viewing of BBC Watchdog, Rip-Off Britain and Rogue Traders genre of program. It is the age we live in sadly, and daily we have to fight the avaricious corporate wolves away.

When I hang up my clogs for the last time, I am resigned to the undertaker fitting plastic coffin handles and charging my estate for expensive brass ones. :A

There is a happy ending though - then I get some peace !! :(
  • Orange's Facebook wall has some entertaining comments from numerous disgruntled customers! These are usually deleted within hours, but interestingly they see to be leaving them on there!

Its miss selling, pure and simple - Personally I am sticking to miss selling, and therefore breach of contract - end of Contract with Orange is my only outcome. No way would i except a little material detriment adjustment - the fight has only just started.
