Orange 'Free' Broadband
Comments
-
I too have renewed my Orange contract for the past 5 years based on the free broadband for life offering - this is how it was sold to me and for life was always mentioned.
phone call from orange last week telling me it was due to end 31/10 unless I took out landline with them.
My comments - I have only stayed with Orange based on the free broadband offer. The poor mobile signal and time it takes to connect a call would not sell the mobile to me on its own merit.
The very poor broadband (suffered because it was free) would not convince me to take up a paid offering from them - too weak, slow and irregular.
I have also heard (not sure if its right and would appreciate comments) that Orange, although following their T&C's allowing them to drop the broadband have in fact made a material change that may present an opportunity for the customer to exit their contract without penalty - I'd love this to be accurate, does anyone know?
Because I would drop Orange today!
Yes you are correct - some, including myself have been released penalty free - the options I gave to Orange were
1) Free BB for the remainder of my contract.
2) penalty free release.
At that time Orange had told me free BB had been irrefutably withdrawn therefore the only option was to release me.
They do now seem to have done a 'U turn' for people being mis-sold, offering free BB for the remainder of their mobile contract.
Given that was my 1st option - personally I would have accepted - but it wasn't available at the outset.0 -

Please update us if you get any response to your request.
this is IMPORTANT and will shed some light on Ofcom's reticence to help us with this situation. Is it maybe because there are an awful lot of us and Orange have asked Ofcom for help in keeping the complaint numbers down? Just who's side is Ofcom on,it certainly doesn't feel like the consumer!nickbirkin wrote: »Information Commissioners Office now interested in Ofcom's lack of response to the Freedom Of Information request for copy of communications between Orange and Ofcom with regards this matter.
Waiting for Ofcom’s response to the email below.
Their time limit expires close of play 1st November.
Further to my Freedom of Information request, initially dated 05/10/2012, I have still not received the Information requested.
The 20 working days expected by the I.C.O. expire tomorrow.
As you have not applied for an exemption under the Act, please explain the lack of response.

Cheers,
I have already started the ball rolling using the guide on the Ofcom website.
I have raised a complaint about the mis0-selling of the free for life broadband and have requested to be released, penalty free, from my mobile contract. I was told no, but I said the change has caused me material detriment.
I asked for a deadlock letter so I could take the matter to CICAS, again they refused but on the basis that I had not yet followed their grievance procedure which I was happy to do. The complaint is logged and I now wait for a call from an Orange Manager as the next step.
Unfortunately the whole process could take up to 12 weeks.
Orange have already lost me as a long term customer:
- Poor mobile signal and connection
- very poor broadband, strength and reliability
- very poor customer service - always difficult to talk to someone
- lots of technical problems (me at least) phone & broadband
- not price competitive
- dont keep promises
All in all, not good!0 -
Need another 13 supporters! Please try and reach the target before this forum goes down for maintenance at midnight to night, it would be awful if anything gor lost in the process!

I was just thinking that up until a few weeks ago when this shambles started I would have always defended orange as a company. Never had a problem with my BB in the 6 years or so I have had it, fast enough for what I want, no downtime, never had a problem with my mobile phone signal or otherwise in the same time.
Now, given what has happened over the last few weeks/months I would say don't touch them with a very long bargepole. What a mess they have made and what a difference a month makes.0 -

I would 2nd that!
Unfortunately though unable to say my entire time has been totally trouble free.0 -
I agree 100%.
I for one will not be renewing anything to do with ORANGE once my mobile contract is up. Orange has shown their true colour, and that is they are not to be trusted. On the phone they will promise you anything and everything, but once your in a contract with them, they try to pull every dirty trick to get more money out of you.
ORANGE you should hang your heads in shame!
