Orange 'Free' Broadband

The article in the Daily Mail today, though small, has a very interesting statistic in it that may well give us all some renewed hope of taking this matter to parliament now....up to "90,000 Orange Mobile customers are affected by the withdrawal of free broadband"
This explains Orange's divide and conquer behaviour in settling with us individually. 90,000 potential mis selling mobile contracts? I'd like to know what Ofcom's response to this is now that statistic is out in the public domain. Thanks again to those who helped me make this article possible, especially Nobby, you are stars!0 -
Erm - that article was run 31 August 2012 by the same author!

Is that the wrong link Nobby?0 -
This is not the same article as in the printed version of the Daily Mail. The website's version says Orange will not divulge the number of customers involved for "competitive" reasons but the Mail journalist seems to have unearthed the magic statistic of up to 90,000. This gives us a lot more power to our elbow,so to speak! Its not far short of the 100,000 needed to demand a motion is discussed in Parliament, if I remember rightly??0

Thanks to Eva49 for the old web-links. The one thing they clearly show is that Orange clearly linked the sale of mobile phone contracts to free broadband. Since I first took up the offer, I have had 4 contracts with them and they have kept the free broadband going each time I renewed. They can argue as much as they like about their right to change T&Cs but as an ordinary customer I would have thought that the fact that they have kept the free broadband going over the course of 4 different contracts would appear to suggest that until recently Orange were offering the "perk" to all customers who continued to remain a mobile customer.
The fact that they are now honouring existing contracts till their expiry date would appear to bear this out.
I have concluded that I no longer want to do business with this company and have already moved my broadband elsewhere and my mobile phone will be following shortly.
I hope that today's Daily Mail article is just the start of bad publicity for Orange (EE) moving forward as in my view the public need to be warned about this company.0 -

Above all else this has been a huge money saving exercise for meThe virgin sim only deal has saved me £27 per month - 30 day rolling contract is a bonus too.
My move to Plusnet means I get exactly the same service as before for just an additional £7 per year!
Also better speeds - on Orange I was getting around 5.7Mbps - Plusnet = 7.7Mbps
Overall this is a great result for me and with a saving of £300+ means I will easily afford a new handset when I want one.0 -
Yes, exactly as you say,but which is the scenario most likely at the moment? I think Orange have tested the waters by sending out say, 5000 letters, and gauging the % of those who are complaining. This gives them anidea of how many overall they have to agree resolutions with. But they did not bank on the strength of this forum. Now we have to have our own "escalation team" and take this to Parliament, forget Ofcom, they have made their position quite clear, they have no position! Can we set up a petition, somewhere on line, that is easy for everyone to find and sign up to, worded so that even those who have not received letters yet can add their voice?Unfortunately if true, the Executive Office are saying there are only a few customers complaining. The number given is around 200 cases.
Maybe most customers have either not found this forum, just switched without complaint, or yet to be informed by Orange.
We know they were doing this in phases, so perhaps many more customers to still be affected.
Orange are being very disingenuous. Unless customers find this forum or are dealt with on a mis-sold basis when they complain, Orange will still actively sell the land line to keep 'free' broadband.
That's why there is the magic escalation process for the special team. The majority will buy the land line deal and the few complainers will get to keep free broadband until the end of their mobile contracts.
It's clear Orange will continue this process until all affected customers are dealt with. There will certainly not be 90,000 customers on the same free broadband within the next few months.0 -
Eva49 - we really should be thanking Orange, not complaining! :rotfl:
That only applies to some though fitz - and only for those at the start of this debacle for as we have seen - by their apparent reinstatement of free BB (obviously the cheaper solution) - this is only for those who are prepared to complain and fight their corner0 -

Quote: Orange customers who have a mobile plan of more than £30 a month can get broadband free on a permanent basis, says Abensur. Well, an 18 month contract with no connection fee, so the company is reserving its position. But the deal appears attractive: a connection up to 8 megabits, a LiveBox, no connection fee, and free, unlimited calls via VoIP using a digital cordless phone evenings and weekends to landline numbers.
More Evidence ORANGE/EE is lying about free for life home broadband!!!!!:rotfl:
That is indeed an extremely interesting read and actually shows the livebox and free BB was in fact essential to their planned marketing strategy and their vision of future developments.
If this doesn't link Mobile to BB - I don't know what will!
Please be patient while waiting for the page to load.

I am in the same position as everyone else here and had been told that my broadband would cease later this month.
I have just rung Orange and told them that as far as I was concerened I had a contract with them and that the broadband was included. Also said that I had checked when I renewed for another 2 years that this was the case and was assured it was.
without much of a fight they have agreed to keep to the contract and that my BB with remain in force for the rest of my contract (14 months).
Ring them, they are givingup.0
