I called Ofcom yesterday - to discuss lodging a complaint against them - I was informed they are answerable to Parliament.
We discussed the Orange saga and he informed me 'Talks with Orange are ongoing' BUT they have set up a 'special team' to deal with free broadband issue' and if I cared to phone them they could sort things out.
I informed him the 'special team' are a sales team and their telephone number was on my original email informing me of their intention to cut off my BB unless I took their line rental deal.
He said NO they have been set up specifically - I will give you their number - I said NO - I will give it to you!
When I read it out - the silence was deafening
Orange have pulled a 'fast one on Ofcom'! - and Ofcom have swallowed it
While Orange/EE continue to fly under the radar.
Ofcom are gullible and unable to comprehend that mis-selling is a criminal offence - even though it is well documented on their site - This should be reported to Trading Standards via the CAB site
This will rumble on over a long period of time as new 'waves' of service withdrawal emails/letters get released - Orange will continue to hedge their bets

Eva -you are 100% right. Ofcom are not up to the job. I have raised the matter with my local MP but he seems uninterested. Unless Ofcom get on top of this issue and put a marker down that Orange know that they cannot get away with their sharp practices then I fear consumers will ciontinue to get a raw deal from Orange.
Indeed, given the name change to EE we really need to try and ensure that everything we post on this forum moving forward refers to EE not Orange as I think it is imperrative that the new company is clearly linked to the practices employed by Orange in recent years.0 -
Hmmmmm free BB only offered from October 2006? -as Orange said to Ofcom!
Be patient when clicking on the links - it takes a while for the webpage to load.

I too could have extended free broadband until end of the mobile contract, although I have endured a month of amoral and stressful arm twisting from Orange for my landline, and I was simply not prepared to capitulate to Orange over what was my right to a 'free' broadband service.
BT have now provided broadband service alongside my existing BT anytime plan for an additional £8.10pm, although I believe this package has to be requested over the phone NOT online. They call it their 'Broadband Anytime Option 1 package'. OK, so strictly speaking, I could have stayed with Orange free broadband for a few more months, although I am happier removing all my business after these unseemly shenanigans.
It is my personal, principled choice, and I accept that others may consider that I have cut off my nose - I don't. At some point the customer has to make a stand. Orange wanted my landline, they have failed, and they will also lose 3 family mobile contracts upon renewal. I am very comfortable with that, and I believe Orange have committed commercial harakiri.0 -

Quote: Orange customers who have a mobile plan of more than £30 a month can get broadband free on a permanent basis, says Abensur. Well, an 18 month contract with no connection fee, so the company is reserving its position. But the deal appears attractive: a connection up to 8 megabits, a LiveBox, no connection fee, and free, unlimited calls via VoIP using a digital cordless phone evenings and weekends to landline numbers.
More Evidence ORANGE/EE is lying about free for life home broadband!!!!!:rotfl:
Could be wrong, but I thought the word permanent meant as long as the life of the mobile contract. Perhaps Orange management require an Oxford dictionery!!!!

Well done Eva49, I am right behind you, in the fight for a complete investigation into the odious practices that have gone on.
I have asked if "ILLEGAL " / "CRIMINAL",methods were used to entice, or keep customers paying more than they needed to, in some cases, for YEARS, can be FULLY investigated.
If this investigation shows that illegal methods were used, then prosecutions should follow. To blame over zealous sales people just does not wash with me.0 -

Whats new....first they raised mobile rentals quoting "inflation based rise" mentioned deep inside their terms and conditions but which was never explained to customers. Infact I had asked for my PAC code when the retentions team clearly said we will offer you a 2 year contract for £22.50 per month. When I complained that any increase in mobile rental sould be offset by a correspdoning rise in discount offered as I was told £22.50 for 24 months. They flatly denied it saying I was offered a fixed discount and not a fixed rental...again quoting t&Cs . I did not fight as the amount I would lose over the 18 months of the contract was only £18 and it did not make sense wasting my time on it. The best way I am going to fight back is walk away from Orange and Tmobile when the c0ntract finish ....they will lose my custom and at some point it will hurt their bottom line.maybe not just my custom but when loads more walk away they will either be forced to offer bigger discounts on renewals or lose business. cannot wait to see what retentions say in Feb 2013!!!. Only 4 months away.
So I am not surprised they are reneging on the free broadband deal. Luckily when they tried to entice me I refused as I am happy with Virgin media speeds for broadband.
In hindsight thankgod...cannot wait to get away from the whole lot of them EE, Orange and Tmobile....
maybe I will just go over to Three as anyway I believe they use the Orange, Tmobile network ...that way EE lose business and I still get to use their combined network!!!.:beer::beer:0 -

When this company deny ''Free BB for Life" was ever offered, it questions my own and many others integrity.
Whilst my own case with Orange has been resolved - it still irks me to be called a 'liar' - which I am not and never will be.
This will keep me searching for hidden evidence - however - most of the links to archived material are not there, I assume Orange had this on their own severs - so has been 'pulled'.
The stupid thing about this whole sorry saga - I would have just accepted free BB for the remainder of my contract if they had been upfront and honest from the outset, in fact, it was my 1st option for resolution.
My personal feeling on this - ONLY when OFT or TRADING STANDARDS launch a criminal investigation will these practices be fully addressed0
