I'm on a iPhone 36 untill April 14, I also had a letter saying my free broadband would end December 12 unless I changed from bt land landlines to orange landline at £11.50 for 3 months then £14 for the rest of my 18 month contract with them.
I phoned up customer services and they just quoted 17. And 18. From the terms and conditions.
Whilst I don't really mind switching to orange home phone as it is swings and roundabouts (stop paying bt and start paying orange for line rental, which is roughly the same as I'm paying now). But can anyone see orange hiking the prices up mid contract as when I asked the customer service girl today she said "very unlikely, as it's all new" but I'm assuming they could put prices up to whatever they wanted using one of there terms and conditions?
My mobile runs out in 18months which would work out well with my orange home phone and free broadband if I am too take it on, am I being stupid as I feel I should go with the deal they are offering, then in 18 months could review my options. Sorry to go on but would like an opinion. Thanks jamie0 -
Well after weeks of upset Orange have at last done something right! I phoned earlier in the week to tell them (not very politely) where they could stick their changed T & C s and asked for my MAC code to move Broadband to a new supplier.
They obviously got the message - MAC received within 48 hours - RESULT! Mobile phone transferring elsewhere at earliest opportunity. Off to celebrate start of my divorce from Orange. :beer:0 -
Well, I got into bed with the devil last night.
I made the move to Orange for my line rental inc. evening & weekend calls.
I did get some assurances (and the name of the operator and time of the call):
1. It’s a 12 month contract
2. The prices will stay the same for the duration of the contract
3. The ‘free’ broadband will be for the duration of the contract
4. The broadband is unlimited.
5. My phone number will not change
6. There is no charge for 0800 numbers (asked 2 or 3 times about a connection charge).
My reasons for opting for Orange? It is the cheapest package I could find. I called BT and the best they could do was to drop my line rental to £11.60 a month but the broadband would be around £13.00. (If anyone is contacting BT then the chap on the phone said to ask for the COT team as they can give the best deals as far as line rental is concerned).
I’m not a huge fan of Orange after this but I have actually had no trouble with the service I have received over the years and my broadband has been very reliable. I do think that whoever ‘one’ decides upon it will be a huge faceless company/corporation that is in the business of making money.
Me, I’ll review it again in 12 months and see if Orange can compete then.
Only time will tell if I've made the right decision!!0 -

Jamie, it is not others opinions that are relevant as everyone will have differing needs/expectations/Land line deals ect.
I you do not need/use/or have inclusive calls with your land line and are happy with the deal then go with what suits you.
Re: Orange hiking prices - how long is a piece of string? Very difficult that one.0 -

Icecube - which deal are you on for a 12 mth contract ?
The reason I ask is that I initially believed I was on the free broadband £14 deal + £4.50 off peak calls for 12 mths.
Then started getting generic emails about an 18 mth broadband contract, which the £14 deal is. ( was told cannot add call bundles to this)
Hence, checking with Orange and being placed on the 12 mth contract, but this is £13.50 line rental + £5 broadband charge. (then any discounts, credits to your account you negotiate).
I'm on the broadband and off-peak calls package which is the £5 a month + £13.50 a month line rental. I've confirmed many times that this is a 12 month contract.
I have had no e-mails to say any different (so far).
Just read this in an e-mail sent to me last night:
the legal stuff
Once all the changes are complete, your contract will be renewed for 12 months. You can check out our terms and conditions at0 -

Spoke to guy in Orange shop today who's regional manager had something to do with BB before moving across to Orange Retail.
Seems the BT Wholesale take over of Orange BB is the nail in the coffin, Orange were losing money on BB and had a terrible reputation as Orange BB was run by a third party who were handed a LUMP sum per year and were out to make as much profit as possible from the yearly amount/contract whilst Orange were still spending money converting exchanges to Orange LLU.
The damage to the brand as this 3rd party was limiting bandwidth/speeds to make its own profit, Orange was left with two options - start BB inhouse with "startup" costs or hand to BT, BT was seen to be the cheaper "startup" option so EE thought, now the costs were losing money before BT and that decision through BT Wholesale was a decision that became hemorrhaging to Orange even before reporting its profit to EE.
FREE broadband went as previous CEO of Orange and then EE, Tom Alexander made the wrong decision...his decision cost him his job & you all FREE broadband as it was never going to be sustainable under BT Wholesale to provide FREE & Alexander knew it but proceeded anyway. Vice President of France Telecom was shipped into to handle the whole mess....
EE has been set up as the damage to Orange brand was marked in stone when Alexander knew FREE broadband was going to have to be removed after his BT Wholesale agreement to overtake Orange LLU.
BT Wholesale/Openreach have made a killing out of Orange resell/LLU handover, Orange are now clawing money back from customers via profit on Line Rental - if you want to keep FREE broadband you DO pay for it via Orange profit on BT Wholesale Line Rental products, Germany is not happy subsidising FREE Orange broadband via EE apparently (cheek given T-Mobile were bailed out by Orange).
Make of that from staff what you will.
In my experience of Orange BB it supports the above, Orange blamed BT, I made a BT CEO complaint against Openreach & Wholesale about my broadband issues...outcome: ORANGE BB third party were slowing & capping me after 6 months of denial....result: sheepish sorry from Orange & all restrictions removed. NOT even 1p of compensation.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies...
