  • I long ago decided with regards to weddings and birthdays I will make up my family deficit with friends...never let me down yet ^_^

SmallL, I know what you mean with the "cold and fast" passing of relatives, it's how it felt with my nan. *hug*

I'm sure it wasn't the intention, but some of the posts have come across as if it's a huge joke that, having lost my parents and brother, I would find love because I made a compassionate response to somebody on an Internet site.

In case any of you think you haven't hurt my feelings and made me feel like rubbish - you have.

I apologise if I hurt your feelings - certainly not my intention. From the things posted earlier, I thought you were a regular on this board and you had friends here that knew you. I meant no offence, I just thought you sounded like someone that might be nice to chat to, if nothing more.

I didn't feel like anybody was picking on you or making fun of you but I do know that talking about loss can be very a sensitive subject - so I'm sorry if I've upset you.
Hi Optimus..just a back to front suggestion here
but why dont you buy a couple of tickets to the Comic-con and then adverstise for someone to go with you - someone who'd also like to go...but their friends might be insufficiently geeky...but they'd rather not go on their own..you could be some geeky girls knight in shining ....whatever it would be you choose to wear..!
you could even extend this and advertise locally for a group to - go
even consider hiring a mini bus
...if you can get 16 strangers - who are all willing to dress up and go to an event like that together having fun - you will have extended the number of people you know hugely...because they all have friends too.....
    just a thought

    That's a very cool idea - I think I'll look into that! Thanks! :-)

Optimus, what have you started here? I had a peek at your OK Cupid profile and I've only gone and joined the site myself!!! I've gone mad, mad!

I think you're the third person that has told me this - I never realised I was so influential! lol It's not a bad site (certainly one of the better ones I've tried) so good luck and please do let us know if you meet that special someone... ....and if they have a nice sci-fi mad sister in their 30s... well, you never know right? ;-) lol

I think someone asked whether I'd met anyone - not yet! For some reason everyone seems to be up north or in the Midlands... what goes on up there? Is it just one big secret geek convention? If so - maybe I should look at moving! ;-)

About my pics - I do have some pics of me at a recent convention... not sure whether they would be any good for a dating profile though. I'm not very photogenic at the moment - burnt my nose yesterday (don't ask!) and also had a wrestling match with the weeds in my garden (which ended with them flinging me halfway across the garden - to the amusement of my neighbours!) so I'm quite achey too.

I'm not sure whether I can post the convetion pics on here or if I should link to my blog as they're on there...?

My goodness, On is so kind and sensitive too. You know, you are going to be the most wonderful partner to someone.

Yes, link the pics, we will help you choose one. Its not just about how you look, i.e. your genetica, its about how you choose to make yourself look.

I have been out of thie dating scene for, um, a while, so do seriously listen to the current daters who say this pic is what they would like to see, but in defence of my opinion...well, i have never been single not out of choice :o. So i think i am quite good at presenting myself well, because I am not anything special

Woah, chill! I'm sorry if I offended you but, after having read the OP's threads before, his profile and advising along with reading your thread I honestly wondered whether you two would be interested if you knew each other. No harm was intended, just given both your circumstances, things you have in common and desire for a family/fear of it not happening etc made me mention it -because it would've been nice! There was no offence intended and I wasn't trying to make you out as 'desperate'.

This is a forum where people can read anything you write, nothing can be expected to be 'personal' and others would easily find it.

I'm sorry you're so upset but I'm even more sorry that OptimusNemesis was interested in talking to you and now probably feels like crap that offence taken has been posted on his thread :(

RochdaleGuy, I read through the posts and at first I felt a mixture of shocked and angry.

Fair enough if the OP had said he was looking for a girlfriend and I replied and said I was looking for a boyfriend - absolutely. But I didn't, and he didn't. I was responding to someone who didn't have a family (I thought) and I replied with my own history which I actually don't tend to talk about much in r/l.

I then only came back to this because of a PM and I was upset. It did seem that some (not all, by a long shot) seemed to be laughing and joking and may as well have written "Well, babymad is desperate, try her." No one on here knows anything about where I live, my hobbies, what I would look for in a man - but hey, this man will do, because she's lost all her family so clearly she's desperate, right?

    Wrong, in fact. :(

I'm calmer now and I can see people were perhaps just trying to be kind but yes, I did feel some of the posts were lacking in empathy a bit. I replied to say I'd lost my parents and brother, not that I was looking to get married - bit of respect in future, maybe?
