Anybody similar to me and have no family to speak of?

I'm in the same boat. No kids, no partner, parents passed away a good few years ago, nothing in the way of extended family. The only family I have is my sister, who I am close with.

Despite my other thread about finding someone geeky or nerdy - I'm not against the idea of meeting someone who is a complete opposite. I just don't like the thought of someone just 'putting up' with my interests. It makes me imagine someone being really bored at a convention with me, not wanting to say something and just sticking it out until we go home... I wouldn't want to do that to someone - I'd want them to be happy!
Oh - didn't realise my link had gone, my profile is here:

Thanks SheGirl, I'd love to chat to BabyMad. :-) I'll PM her (hope she doesn't mind!).

Optimus - I've just looked at your profile & think you sound fantastic. Sadly I'm waaay too old for you & not local, but if I were I'd try to summon up the courage to message you. I do echo what LostInRates says about your photo though - you look fine & it a good pic but I think it would look better if it wasn't quite so "close". I agree with her comments about hobbies too - I've gone to events that I thought I'd hate because my ex wanted to go - & I've enjoyed the majority more than I thought, not feeling like I had to go just to show my support.
How do you find that particular dating site? I've just bitten the bullet & joined a different site, but sadly my profile has just been rejected - oh the irony :rotfl:& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

I have only me and my mum - my dad passed away a few years ago and my grandmother earlier this year. I have no siblings, and I do have cousins on my dad's side but they're a long way away.
My OH has quite a small family too but I do get on well with them. I am very lucky to have him, I mooned over him for 13 years and through 2 relationships before I finally snagged him
Optimus (great name
) you sound like a lovely guy and I wish you all the best. You should try larping if you're a bit of a geek, we get some awesome girls at our events

Hi Optimus..just a back to front suggestion here
but why dont you buy a couple of tickets to the Comic-con and then adverstise for someone to go with you - someone who'd also like to go...but their friends might be insufficiently geeky...but they'd rather not go on their own..you could be some geeky girls knight in shining ....whatever it would be you choose to wear..!
you could even extend this and advertise locally for a group to - go
even consider hiring a mini bus
...if you can get 16 strangers - who are all willing to dress up and go to an event like that together having fun - you will have extended the number of people you know hugely...because they all have friends too.....

Optimus, what have you started here? I had a peek at your OK Cupid profile and I've only gone and joined the site myself!!! I've gone mad, mad!Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0

Optimus, that's a great profile! I think you've set just the right tone, not too heavy, I think you've a very good chance of finding some interesting, compatible people because you've made yourself sound like a really interesting, fun person to know!
Not me though, we've got zilch in common:rotfl:
Best of luck

Optimus - just looked at your profile and can't see anything wrong with it. I'm on several dating sites and not having much luck. I like geeky men but your not in my area and Im older than you, hope you find that special person.
Im an only child, parents and grandparent now dead, and so only me and my teenage son since I got divorced, and ex's family dont keep in touch with us now. Got an elderly uncle and 3 cousins who I see once or twice a year and thats about it.
Good luck0 -
Hey Optimus...I looked at your profile too and think you look lovely! Don't worry though, I'm old enough to be your mother!
But you'll make some girl very happy and I really do think Babymad could be that girl.
What have you got to lose?0
