I can really sympathise with you on this one. I'm 22 and an only child. I don't see my father and haven't done since I was a baby, also see none of the family from his side. My grandparents passed away when I was 3 or so and my mum died early this year. I consider myself to be an orphan with no family!
  • You know, 'she' might be the exact opposite and have huge loving supportive family who come to view you as part of them. Both my parents refer to my dh as ' my son (long pause then more quietly) inlaw).

I read your other thread, and think you sound just fantastic, (though i missed the link to see how you look). I am fairly sure if you are giving your character time to come out with women you will be ok.

    Thanks for the compliment! :-)

Despite my other thread about finding someone geeky or nerdy - I'm not against the idea of meeting someone who is a complete opposite. I just don't like the thought of someone just 'putting up' with my interests. It makes me imagine someone being really bored at a convention with me, not wanting to say something and just sticking it out until we go home... I wouldn't want to do that to someone - I'd want them to be happy!

    OPTIMUSNEMESIS MEET BABYMAD.

She,like you has no family (nor do I but I'm introducing you two for a reason..)

She also has no partner and has been unable to find one, despite trying many avenues.

She also is worried about never having a family and, such is her desire to have one, she's considering sperm banks and going it alone because she doesn't think she'll meet anyone in time.

She's a deputy head teacher who is self sufficient and owns her own home.

Now,why don't you pair in such a similar predicament have a chat and see if there's any chance :)

Oh,and if there are bells and pattering footsteps I'd like to be acknowledged :p

Thanks SheGirl, I'd love to chat to BabyMad. :-) I'll PM her (hope she doesn't mind!).

This thread is making me lol.

OptimusNemesis you sound like a combination of me & my hubby - (don't think there's anything on your profile that at least 1 of us isn't a fan of) freaky! :pFrom your profile there I reckon you'd enjoy our bookcase, DVD collection, CD collection...

On the topic of family Christmases I love the fact that hubby's parents always have everyone round for the big Christmas thing. :) My parent's have never really been the big party hosts and never invite relative to stay, (though I was lucky to enjoy family Christmases with my parents, sister, Uncle, Aunty 3 cousins & granddad when I was a kid [@ my Uncles house]) even less so after my sister died. :(
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

I have my three children, no parents aunts uncles siblings, it was hard in the past with no one to turn to for help or guidance when things got tough. I encourage my children to be close although that said they will go their own way in life and hopefully will have each other to turn to.

You know, i cultivated an interest in my dh's hobbies, and him in mine, it works well for us, but for many time apart hobbying also works. In the example you raise, if dh wanted to go to something i had mild curiosity about i would go with him, otherwise i would do something else and we would share experiences of our day together. Something i would say is that the way you are phrasing it slightly makes me think....hmmm, if it took off and there was commitment, family does he realise kids birthdays paties are going to clash with conventions, that some of his life will probably have to change? Of course, you must live life now doing stuff you love to do, but sometimes, that changes a bit in a couple, and more again in a family. Not totally, it should not (well, depending on what it is you like to do).

Will you think of her hobbies as something You have to put up with? Or a cute foible you can indulge?

Differences are good, (an example easiest to gove in hetreosexual relarionships. As is common ground. E.g. I would not consider myself a geek, but i do like some sci fi and fantasy and have read the hobbit more times than you have.;). So....keep your mind open, really do.

Also, imo some men come into their own with a little maturity, not just in them but in their target group of women. I think my dh would have been a bit like that had something weird on the sky not worked for us. He did ok for women when he was single but i think now (we are just a year older thn you) he is starting to seem more attractive to my friends who were not sure what i saw in him. I reckon by the time he is forty he will be having to beat them off with sticks. Well, i hope so any way.

Btw, whilst you look nice, i don't think that picture does you any favours, not your face but the way you have shown your self iyswim. Is there a shot of you that includes top of head and shoulders (so from further away?). And in better lighting?
