Well I asked my vet and that was the price I have been given so might be different depending where in the country you live
Perhaps you should go back and ask your vet for a true reflection of ALL the costs involved, including the extra fees you would be charged for an OOH emergency section.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Pastures New: these rules only apply to professional breeders who breed over 5 litters a year they have to have a licence etc they do not apply to someone in my situation considering doing a one-off litter
Do you live in a council or housing association property? If so,you are not allowed to breed animals at all, whether for money, gift or otherwise.Found that out a few years ago after mentioning my parents breeding dogs to a friendIf women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -

I have heard something along these lines further up in the thread. I cannot find anything relating to this matter either on the web or in my tenancy agreement. So the answer is I really don't know. Although on the other hand, I do know many people in council houses that have bred cats or dogs in theirs and have never had any problems. I can always ring the council to clarify. I suspect it is more if you are running a breeding business as opposed to one litter.Never judge a book by its cover :beer:0 -
Wow and I thought cats had litters of 5-7 cats and upto 5 times a year thanks for the biology lesson can't wait for the maths one!
Ok the maths - at best £140 up to 5 times a year (maximum £700) Wow big money that I really must look into doing it myself
And this money would be in drabs of £140 max what's that then an extra food shop once in a while big stuff top dollarNever judge a book by its cover :beer:0 -

These comments alone tell me you're only planning to breed your dog for the potentially high stakes you could earn from it. This is called backyard breeding no matter how you might try to dress it up and defend yourself. Referring to KC breeders means zilch *sigh*
What is a backyard breeder?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Those comments were actually aimed at your comments above about the lady who now sells cats at £20 a throw for a 'profit'. I was merely saying that in my opinion, that is not much of a profit. If she was selling cats solely for £20 a throw to earn extra money then she must be in very dire straits indeed because it is hardly big bucks. I am sure if she was that desperate she could find other ways to make money with a larger profit margin whether by finding employment, self-employment or any number of methods. So the point I was making is that it is unlikely she breeds cats solely for this purpose.
If you look up on the web or elsewhere what is meant by a 'backyard breeder' you will find the term is applied to someone who is unprofessional, with little knowledge, breeding dogs for profit without care to their welfare, in substandard conditions (like cages for example) inadequate health care inadequate food etc just to get as many pups and profit as possible without caring for the dogs.Never judge a book by its cover :beer:0 -

I've never mentioned anything about cats!!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I do apologise - I was getting you confused with the dogsnobs above. But these were why my comments about the cats were made.Never judge a book by its cover :beer:0 -

Would you care to tell me what it is about your particular dog that is such a fine specimen of the breed that you wish to expand her gene pool by breeding from her? What shows has she won? What champions does she have in her bloodlines? What is it about HER that excels other samples of the breed?
ETA: How many people do you have waiting on your list for a puppy from her? You DO have a waiting list of potential owners, yes?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
