Just read something really pertinent to a lot of our situations in a book I'm reading. Its a non-fiction book and the author, AJ Jacobs, a secular Jew is trying to live according to all the rules of the Bible. I'm not religious at all but I love the book so far. Anyway, the bit I especially liked is about him and wife's struggle to conceive a second child. They struggled conceiving the first also and are very frustrated and fed up as all their friends are fertile.
There is an upside to the Bible's infertility motif: The harder it was for a woman to get pregnant, the greater was the resulting child. Joseph. Isaac. Samuel (whose mother pledged him to God as thanks for the conception). These are some of the giants of the Hebrew Scriptures.

Yesterday I broke Julie's gag rule to inform her that if we do have
another kid, he or she could be the one for the ages. Which made her smile.

"I think that's true," she said. "Good things come to those who wait". Which sounds like a biblical proverb but is actually from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

Jacobs, A.J., The Year of Living Biblically.

Don't know if this is helpful at all, but I like the thought that my babies are just making me wait and then will be something special.

yeah, as it was explained to me is that the ovarian cysts are just one of the of the symptoms not the cause so it's not necessary to have them. it's all very much a grey area. you can have it a little or a lot.

as it's a syndrome and has no cure they can only treat the symptoms that you want treated and the best they could do for your fertility is make you ovulate, so if you're already doing that fine I personally wouldn't be too concerned about having it

I have cysts now th poo ugh

Thanks for explaining! Yeah that makes sense. Although it can take me a while sometimes I do do sometimes ovulate at an ok time so it's not really worth looking into right now.
thanks claire dont post often but am back on the 12 months + as starting ivf this year :D

    how are you doing?

I ttc for 8 months, got pregnant then had a missed miscarriage at 12 weeks. I'm 'ok' now but was in a mess a few weeks ago when it happened. Just taking each day as it comes now I have my highs & lows.

I was hoping you were pregnant! But glad that you're at least starting the ivf process and not waiting for anything in that respect. I hope you get your bfp before though!

Just to clarify re the pcos, they also use bloods tests to check your hormone levels, in addition to scan results of your ovaries, cycle length information and additional symptoms. The blood tests don't seem to have been mentioned in the last couple of pages - they're one of the list that if you have x no. of they they diagnose you with pcos. From memory, claire, my FS said 2 of 3 from: cysts on ovary scan, wonky hormone blood tests, irregular cycles. You could, therefore, be diagnosed with it if you had the dodgy bloodwork and irregular cycles, but not the cysts in the ovaries. There's some debate about what causes the hormone issues/cysts, in a ' what came first, the chicken or the egg?' kind of way.

Whilst we're talking about PCOS, it's also worth mentioning that a relatively large number (I can't remember the exact stat now) of the women that have it, have children not even realising they have it. For most PCOS cases, the ladies do ovulate but not as often - not ideal, but also not necessarily infertile. Don't lose hope Becca :) (I remember being floored after my diagnosis, but actually it seems to have been the least of my worries, in the grand scheme of things :o)

I have PCOS, btw, along with (now confirmed after 2 years ttc) endometriosis and tubes that were blocked/may be damaged (I recently had surgery to try and address them).

I think tomorrow/sunday will be cd 1 and the end of cycle 3 of clomid. I can't help but think it's inevitable that we'll be needing ivf... :(

There was other stuff I was gonna reply to yesterday but then the forum went down for maintenance and don't remember now, so  to all :)

Thanks for the hugs ladies, know we just have to wait and see what next test says and then take it from there. No point worrying now or getting upset until we know what we are dealing with.

Can I be updated to cd1 please Becca.

Hugs to everyone else feeling down xxx

Hugs to all those who need or want them.

I'm calling CD1 today... turns out it wasn't implantation bleeding, just the beginning of AF, damn you Dr. Google!

Bit gutted as I thought we a reasonable chance for once this month, but trying to gather together some shreds of PMA anyway :grouphug:
  • BZ - very informative post. Thanks.:) Fingers crossed you won't need IVF.

Amy - Cd1 Sucks big time after being so ill. Hope you feel better soon.

Code - Hope you are doing OK.

    Elsie - Hugs for cd1.

afm. Still in the wine and chocolate zone and started taking AC on cd1 to try and level out my hormones. Weigh in this morning and no weightloss this week which isn't a surpsie as I retain water like nothing else during af so hoping for a good result next weekend.

Hugs to all who need them.

sorry, yes they do do a blood test although it wasn't one of the ' if you have three of these five's symptoms my gynae gave me.
the problem with the blood test is that it must be done on CD1-3, tests LH and FSH and possibly TSH, but if you have no cycle you can't get a reliable result from just doing it whenever. my blood test came back fine but I hadn't had a period for about six months at the time lol

    I've been Money Tipped!
TL exactly the same happened to me re bloods but I've got enough of the symptoms for a diagnosis apparently. They are repeating my bloods though.

Thanks for all the hugs, most people I've spoken to about it have had a "it's not the end of the world, deal with it" attitude which I will & I know I'm lucky to possibly be getting referred but it's just hit me very hard. My appointment has also confirmed my thoughts to me that I'm not ovulating so ttc is almost pointless.
