After my miscarriage at Leigh the nurse said to me 'remember, we only scan if there is pain or bleeding' in a nudge nudge wink wink kind of way ;)

A bit controvertial, but I really don't advocate lying to get an early scan. I find it quite upsetting that a nurse would even suggest that. EPU is so overcrowded anyway and as a medical service like any other, it shouldn't be taken advantage of.

My entire pregnancy was monitored very closely last time, as will any future ones, and I would be really really annoyed to have a potential appointment 'taken' by someone who didn't need it.

Of course, bleeding in early pregnancy can be a sign of something serious and it should be checked out. Anxiety or the desire to 'see' baby as soon as possible does not require medical treatment. As Skint pointed out, seeing a baby at 6 or 7 weeks does not mean a great deal unfortunately.

Tink- All my pregnancies have been consultant led. I am thankful that they look after me, but I wish I could have the straight-forward easy pregnancies most other people get.

    Rant over.

When I saw my dr when I got pregnant she said that to me about 3 times! & I'd never even had a miscarriage before. Although it wasn't quite the winking/ nudge nudge tone but it made me wonder if it could lead to people who had never had any problems lying.

They said to me next time they'll give me one earlier scan so I don't know if I'd be able to choose when & I'm in two minds because like skint said it only shows what's happening right that minute- however I think I'd go for it anyway purely based on the fact our baby died & we had no idea for 3 weeks so even if the worst happened again I'd rather find out sooner than later. Which a scan doesn't guarantee depending on timing of course but I think I'd feel a little better for it.

really don't think I'm guna ovulate again. feel like a failure. I so wanted to have a big family, now I'll count myself as the luckiest lady in all the world if I just get one little miracle. 9 weeks until Clomid...

You are not a failure, you're infact the opposite because you're doing your very best! No one can ask for more :)

Tink - good luck with the running. I used to run a lot and it really is the most addictive exercise you can do, and I think it keeps the weight off better than any diet or other exercise. Let us know how you get on. There is a running club in my town and I'd like to join but I'm scared of not being able to keep up, so my plan is to take a few months to improve my fitness and then go along.

Thank you Firefly for some very wise words, and hugs to TeamLowe. I know you will get there eventually.

    Evening everyone

I caved in and brought the test, but went to the loo to do it and had spotting in knickers, sorry if TMI, so I still haven't done it, as I'm guessing AF is on her way...

oh loulou it sucks when the witch decides to be amusing with her timing

Tinks I'm weightlifting to increase metabolism and reduce insulin resistance and staring the C25K on Monday for my cardio. I say starting, obviously I mean restarting, I think this will be the fourth go! do you like your new shoes? I chose my running shoes by going into sports direct and finding a pair for nine quid that said ' Nike running' on the sole lol x x

I think there are advantages to an early scan - once you see a heartbeat the chance of miscarrying decreases loads, so I found that quite reassuring (I have early scans due to medical condition - one of the few advantages). Yes I know you can still miscarry after seeing the heartbeat but I found it helped to know my chances had gone down. I don't advocate anyone lying to get an early scan on the NHS but if you really wanted one you could always pay to have one done privately.

Whilst personally im not sure I would feel comfortable lying to get an appointment, if I do manage to conceive again I will certainly try to get an early scan for my own peace of mind. Whilst a heartbeat isnt a definite indictor of a healthy pregnancy it is a positive sign, and if I were to miscarry again I would rather have an idea sooner rather than later (of course I am aware there is no guarantee of knowing what will happen).

The way I see it my husband and I pay our taxes like everybody else and if they agree to scan me I will happily be scanned.
