thanks for that, very interesting information
but i do disagree with your conclusion (rather pedanitically i'll admit) a low gi diet in particular may not have any effect on your cycle but losing weight will improve a PCOS lady's chance of a regular cycle
Personally i'd recommend a low gi diet to everyone as it's healthy, sustainable and easy to follow. and my own anecdotal evidence is that i lost no weight on weightwatchers but 3 stone in 18 months once i was told that a low gi diet would be best for me and switched. of course, i'm sure most of that is because it was a consultant gynae who told me that so a placebo/psychological effect. Plus low gi suits my lifestyle/mindset x xShovel_Lad wrote: »...all the claims for a Low GI diet have been disproved (except the one that it helps to lose weight, but even then, no more than any other restricted intake diet)
The science is simple. Low GI foods tend to be lower calorie, slower to digest and more filling, making you less likely to eat more calories than you need to maintain weight. But as the British Dietetic Association say "Foods with a high GI are not necessarily bad foods". Obviously, the shelves of "Low GI" diet books won't tell you this, they have a product to sell, but it is possible to lose just as much weight by eating, say, Mars bars (Plus appropriate mineral, vitamin, supplements etc) the trouble is, you would have to restrict yourself to 5 a day, eat nothing else and put up with the hunger pangs.0 -
Afternoon all - and a Friday afternoon at that! Woohoo for the weekend.
I am stepping away from the Low GI discussion, it seems a minefield to me.Except to agree with MrsJ - chips and chocolate here we come!
Good to see people all a bit more upbeat - but to any lurkers, please don't think that means you can't post if you are down. I hate thinking people aren't posting for any reason, as this thread can be such a great support when you need it. I suspect I will be back upset and moaning in about 12 days time, when the hormones kick in.
I have realised I get much more anti pregnant women in the 2WW. I can be ok with it normally (ie, the other 2ww) but I do seem to develop an irrational jealousy that I can't control in the 2ww. Especially as AF symptoms start to appear. Stupid hormones...
I am feeling a bit left out of the long list of testers, so can I please be added for the 28th. That would be 16DPO, so I suspect I won't get there, but fingers crossed. I've had lots of random period pains this OV cycle, if I didn't know AF was a while away I would think it was coming. It is strange how the same body can produce such variety each month!0 -
Could we have a look at your chart please?
Still climbing sounds promising:cool:
I hope this works.
MY CHART
I only got my thermometer about a week into my cycle and then realised after a few days I'd been reading it wronghence it's a bit erratic at the start, but once I got the hang of it it seemed to be a bit more normal looking.
Flee - I've never spoken to you before but just want to wish you all the best for the future.0 -
that following a low gi diet would have no impact whatsoever on your cycle. it can if it causes weightloss, but so can any other diet. i did say it was a pendantic point
but this is not the place to argue over which method of losing weight is best/the worth of a gi diet.
the important point is that for overweight women with PCOS losing weight is the best treatment. a loss of only 10% of bodyweight has been shown to have significant impact on the symptoms, including anovulationLittle Lowe born January 2014 at 36+6

Ugh I have what I can only describe as PMT symptoms. Feeling really snappy and horrible. Not a great sign I'm sure!
Flee - sorry to see you go too, but also want to wish you good luck for the future.
Fingers crossed for the 28th for you T2D. The 2ww really is a pain in the ar5e!Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -

I get very anti-preggos whilst I have AFBeen sulking about my super-fertile SIL this week. I think it must be a mix of hormones and pain that makes me hate anyone with a bump. It doesn't help that a woman in town that OH claims is my doppelganger already has a baby and we saw her on Tuesday with a new bump, he said to me, 'Look! You're pregnant again!' and I just felt like crying!
