Gemmzie I had mine a few weeks ago just for peace of mind, it's not comfortable but it's really quick :) x

Teamlowe - I'm the same as you with an early scan. I should get one because of the molar, but I don't know whether I actually will when it comes to it iyswim? I presume it will be at EPU rather than my local hospital, but no idea how it works. I'm just going to push for it when I get to that point, and if they aren't listening then I will pay for a private one instead. I don't think I could wait til 12 weeks again knowing I've had problems before :o I like that what you wrote about being stronger. That makes sense to me.

MrsJ - I think everyone feels desperate to get pregnant again. I know I do :( I know its not a replacement for the baby I lost, but I just feel like time is slipping away (even tho I'm not that old). I should be over 6 months pregnant now, not trying again iyswim? I know that my due date will be a lot easier to bear if I am pregnant again - but that being pregnant again will bring up its own set of new worries etc :o Ultimately tho - being pregnant is sooooooo much better than not being pregnant - even if it will be more worrying etc.

Gemmzie - Yes I get a smear everytime they send for me. Have you ever had anything like that before? They put a speculum inside you and shine a light up there and take a scrape of tissue from up your foof. Its a little hmmm, wierd when they do the scraping, not even as much as uncomfortable - just a wierd sensation. The speculums can be cold, but they put lubricant on them and if you relax they are fine. Don't put it off, cos they do it for a reason. It can be a little embarassing I suppose at first to get your foof out (you just take yr lower clothes off and are given some sheeting to cover you up) but trust me - when you have a baby you are used to dropping your drawers anywhere and letting anyone have a poke about :rotfl: So think of it as baby training :D You should do it mid cycle if pos, not near your period. Get it booked in

Oh I definitely plan to keep them regularly through my life but you can't have it done when you're pregnant so wondering if I shouldn't be TTC before I have a date for it? Mid cycle is next week, I wonder if they can squeeze me in and I'll still have time to BD :rotfl:

See Abis, that well annoys me, cos women have always said 'ooh you don't care once you've had a baby' but I have no shame anyway and will happily drop my drawers for medical staff BUT YET theyre the ones who insist I go behind a curtain EVEN THOUGH they're going to be staring at it in a minute anyway s what's the point. Are they suggesting hey would be revolted at the sight of my fat !!!? it's just an !!!. It's not even hairy lol

It also leads To that awkward moment where you're undressed behind the curtain and ready for them to come back but you don't know if they're guna come back anyway or if you have to shout for them. Oddly enough I get more worked up,about that bit than showing them my foof. It's a foof. It's anatomically correct (i checked with a mirror and a diagram) and pretty average. Why we have to play this game where they pretend they don't want to look at it I've no idea x x

If its just for dating purposes then they clearly dont realise that advice should be altered for women on forums like this who know exactly what their dates are :rotfl: Its not like we dont obsess over them lol!

Do you guys get regular smears? I've just been invited for my first one and wonder if I should do that before we TTC again.

You can have it done whilst pregnant, they just tend not to,unless it's really out of date as they wouldn't be able to give you any treatment. Or so the nhs site says. Also when I went for mine they said it should be within the first two weeks of your cycle as theres natural changes after you ovulate which can skew the results x

I don't know if mine would count as out of date, I guess given the no testing until 25 in this country, yes it would be.

I think I'll book in for next cycle and then I should know about the hospital referral by then too, thanks ladies :)

Gemmzie - I just rang up my doctors and asked the receptionist for a smear appointment, and then they asked when mid-cycle was and booked it in for then. Tis quite simple, and I would get it done next week if you can, saves you worrying about it every month.

Teamlowe - I think I used to be embarrassed. Can't quite remember tho :o My mum is a very embarrassed kind of lady, and said the worst bit of childbirth was the embarrassment not the pain, so I think that kind of rubbed off on me for a while. Not now tho - I don't really care who pokes about at my foof (well, as long as they are medically trained and have a reason for poking - I don't just drop my drawers at tescos or anything :rotfl:) I hate the whole curtain thing too :o Bit wierd. I might ask them why they do that next time :rotfl:

That sort of happened to me. I got to asked to go when I was 21, but I didnt go until I was 22 and at uni, waited until I came home in the summer (as I hated the uni docs in manchester as it was in a rough areas with a load of weirdos in the waiting room lol), and then after 2 weeks of me dreading the appt I got there to be told sorry we cant do it because by the time the results come youll have gone back to uni. Thinking about that now that makes no sense but at the time I was just glad to get out of there.

And then they changed the age to 25. So then when I was 25 I got another letter, and I put it off again.. And then when I think i was 26 I got a reminder and I was like for gods sake I just need to get this over with!

It actually wasnt that bad except that because I was on the pill I had cervical erosion - basically a bit of bleeding and I was lying there for about 10 mins instead of the normal 30seconds because she had to keep trying to get a swab without too much blood! The nurse was like Im not sure we'll be able to get a result.. I was like great all of this and it could be for nothing! anyway thank god the letter came and it had a result and was all fine.

She said when you come off the pill it should stop apparently its a side effect.

I wore a dress with leggings so I didnt have to completely take everything off and could get dressed after really quickly!

I think my Mums embarassment about stuff like that really rubbed off me but Im trying to get over it!

i dont think they even asked me on the phone about my cycle though but then again as I was on the pill I could plan when I was going to have AF. Now I would say 'If only I knew!'
