Spoke to the policeman investigating our case yesterday. They know the identity of the owner of the account that the money was transferred to and have interviewed them. They wouldn't give me any details, but I assume that it is not our friend in Florida (unless the police went on a vacation to the US for their interview).

It just now occurs to me that when 'our friend in Florida' (calling her 'friend' leaves a very bad taste in my mouth) asks for a bank transfer she cannot be referring to a US account. There is no facility quite like the British one for transferring funds, and to my knowledge there is no way to do it to an American account.

It is looking increasingly likely that she has a criminal co-conspirator operating in this country. That might account for Hollydays' posting of a person who uses decidedly British idioms in her writings.

What about her accountant? Could it be his bank account they are referring to?

It was definitely a UK account I transferred the money to (Lloyds to be exact). Karen gave me a sort code and account number.

That is what my husband thinks. Karen said the account was in the name of ChairAndSofaCovers, but when I queried it with my bank they said that account names aren't checked then transfers are done so you can give any name and the money will still be credited.

Actually, you can send money to a foreign bank account using either the SWIFT code or IBAN (International Bank Account Number). But it's a chargeable service from the UK.

Nice one! I expect madfrenchgirl girl would be interested in that.
I'd also like to try and find out about her previous eBay site..but no doubt the police can do that.
