chairandsofacovers.co.uk not refunding

I am posting this on behalf of my Mum.
She is currently waiting for a refund from chairandsofacovers.co.uk and I wondered if they have been messing anyone else around? I have searched online for reviews and found none.
Basically, she ordered from them online in February, paid through paypal with her debit card. They did not arrive until early April but did not fit properly.
She contacted the company straight away and was instructed to return them to a certain address. She did this straight away so was within her rights under the distance selling regulations.
She obtained a proof of posting and tracking number and the parcel was signed for at the address given.
She has since heard nothing from the company. She has sent two emails, left messages through the website and rang the 0800 number (which goes straight to a recorded message saying they will return your call if you leave your details - this has not happened!)
Eventually my dad contacted the company with a vague email stating he has been trying to contact them and he recieved a reply simply saying 'how can I help?' He replied that he would like them to sort out my mum's refund, giving all the details but has since heard nothing.
In July my mum sent a recorded delivery letter to the adderess on the company's website as another way of contacting them, it was signed for but no reply.
She eventually contacted the Citizens Advice Bureau who directed her to a website on how to follow court procedings. She has sent a 'Letter Before Action' by recorded delivery (which was signed for again) and is currently giving them 14 days to reply before seeking advice on how to go forward with taking them to court.
Does anyone else have any advice on what else she can do?
Or has anyone else had problems with this company?
She is a very patient lady but this matter has dragged on far too long, she started off giving them the benefit of the doubt by giving them sufficient time to process the refund but they have done nothing but mess her around (or completely ignore her).
She has contacted Paypal and her bank but has left it too long for either to cover her (if it was a credit card I think it would have been different but it was a debit card).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Hiya - I have had the same problem with them - incredible amount of e-mails and promises which have come to nothing. The most recent being that (Text removed by MSE Forum Team) has been in hospital! Most odd as they offer a refund then give you a forwarding address - so I wonder if ANYONE has had money back from this little company? Did you get your money back in the end?0

Take them to court and make them pay.0

Hi,
Did either of you ever get a resolution? My mum is having similar issues and I am a little concerned.
Thanks,
JGT0 -
Hi everyone,
My wife had a problem with getting a refund from this outfit. She was dealing with someone who identified herself as '(Text removed by MSE Forum Team).' Turns out she's really one (Text removed by MSE Forum Team). (Text removed by MSE Forum Team) jerked my wife around for weeks, promising this and promising that. For example, she would tell her she was posting a 'refund information pack.' It never came, of course. Then she said she was at a funeral and would deal with it next week. Then she said she did the refund and offered a bogus confirmation number. BLAH BLAH BLAH.
(Text removed by MSE Forum Team) is one sadistic idiot who obviously enjoys jerking people around for as long as they are willing to put up with her nonsense.
Then: We rang our credit card company and complained. THEY CLAWED BACK OUR MONEY !!! Hooray!
We now are in the driver seat and (Text removed by MSE Forum Team) must dance to our tune! We have her goods. Guess what? I am going to send this sadistic moron an email and tell her exactly what she has to do to get the chair cover and sofa cover back. She will have to send a self-addressed stamped package to us within 7 days. If she doesn't comply in the time frame I specify, I am going to sell them on ebay!
If she DOES comply, then I am going to take the amount of time that (Text removed by MSE Forum Team) jerked my wife around and treble it. That is, I am going to wait 21 weeks before returning her stuff! Then, and only then, will I go to the post office next time I am going anyway and send it back.
Frankly, I hope she fails to comply.
I am also going to replicate this message on other consumer-beware sites.
I know it sounds like a cliche, but (Text removed by MSE Forum Team) finally messed with the wrong people!

Hi. We had the same issue with this dodgy company. We tried to return the items and they had given us a false UK address so the covers were returned to us. We still have them and no refund. Wish there was some way to warn people who are tempted to use their website. Hopefully this thread will help.
I wouldn't bother trying to return the covers, they won't get there.

Hi,
Sorry to hear of your troubles.
Don't bother with anything CAB has to say. They will waste your time. Instead, enter a dispute with your credit card company. Not paypal, your credit card company. They will look at your emails and the lies (Text removed by MSE Forum Team) has told you and claw back the money.
Don't bother to try to communicate with (Text removed by MSE Forum Team). She is a criminal thug living in Florida.
Good luck!0 -
Hi, I'm feeling a little sick discovering this feed in the forum just now. I ordered some sofa covers from this place 3 weeks ago and they have never arrived. After several very helpful email conversations with a lady called 'Libby' I very foolishly (and can't believe I did this as I am usually so cautious with payment security) I fell for the 20% discount to pay by BT. See why I feel sick?!! Lesson well and truly learnt there. I've not even received my order, bet she's having a good old laugh at me now.
After reading these comments and doing a little digging on Companies House, it would seem the actual company was dissolved back in April 2010. Makes you wonder if this is even chairandsofacovers we have been dealing with?
Surely there must be something that can be done about this?
Anyone had any joy yet? I shall continue to wait for my order and pray to god I've not said goodbye to that cash!0 -
Has anyone reported her to the actionfraud.police.uk/home
If I don't receive my items I will be doing so!0 -
I am joining this forum as getting very worried about the £240 I spent with this company on 16/07/13. Just like annavdf above I stupidly got into cheery email conversation with "*" and accepted her discount for bank transfer foolishly thinking that it was better to know all their bank details than give out all mine including card security numbers etc.
WRONG!! I have gone to my bank (having read this last week and not getting my sofa covers), only to be told I have more chance of recovering money from a card transaction and I should contact Police if I don't get a full refund cheque back from the company.
Having not replied to my emails stating I wanted to cancel my order and have a full refund for over a week and ignoring my answerphone messages (on the phone that's never answered), Libby finally sent me an email Monday saying she would send me a cheque if I gave her my address. This is presumably all stalling tactics as she had my address when I ordered the covers weeks ago... I gave her the address again on Monday and surprise, surprise no cheque so far.
I wrote again yesterday to enquire what day she had posted it and if I had to sign for it. She replied saying she had sent it Monday by regular Post and expects me to receive it any day! My Friday post has just arrived and there is no cheque...
I am sure she is just stringing me along as she has done to others but I'm not sure how long to wait. Any advice would be gratefully received please. I know that some of the Distance Selling rules talk about 30 days for refunds but I have a feeling they are not playing by the rules.
I too did all the research with Companies House etc. as I very quickly felt that something was wrong but I'm cross that this legitimate looking site is still getting orders.0 -
