Dear Diary and MSE World, :hello:

Lost yesterday's post; clicked the wrong header, oops.

Thanks everyone who has popped in to the Nest. :T
We have use-it-up cake - almost a Vic sponge except with cherry jam - but alas, no-where to sit comfortably together. :o
The patio has become a <temporary, honest!> repository for lots of stuff that was outside but mustn't get wet, which means there is only one unencumbered chair (it's CD's; Muggins sits on the wall, :rotfl:).

Good news first: When his doctors received Divo Two's medical history, they revised their diagnosis and changed DS2's meds. He was discharged a couple of days later, 'back to himself' again. :)
Huge relief. Divo One did most of the work chasing files <Bless him!> and is keeping a copy of his brother's notes in case of future need.

Spendy news: Have had lots of complaints that am always on-line, but often do not respond to messages. Eh?
Plumber solved the mystery; DS2's too-clever mobile is apparently connecting both lappies to wifi whenever it's within reach. That's almost always, because the only way I know of activating the screen is by plugging the 'phone into a usb socket (to make a call whilst away from the Nest, am obliged to swap the chip into my ancient Nok!a :o).

Plumber is confident he can master the foibles of DS2's gift; asked to buy it [cheap], and volunteered to help find a replacement I can actually use. Turns out Plumber's mobile is defunct (that's why he'd been out of touch).
Divo Two doesn't mind if I pass on 'his' smart-'phone, so Muggins braved the <toxic for me> foreigners' mall (without Plumber, who was busy that day).

Despite not having much clue - just a list of essential features - yours truly got lucky. :D
Saleslady pointed out a model they had on offer, in fact it was the last one at such a good price <of course, said the cynical little voice inside!>.
Looking around the shop, it was the most expensive non-App!e product on view. Hmm. But, did have enough cash left-over from last month's budget, and it would solve a problem without further mucking about, so..
While trying to explain the features - on her own mobile, which happens to be the same model <good recommendation> - Saleslady confided that her brother lives in the village below the Nest, and she intends to give the baby she's expecting, one of yours truly's RL names (gleaned from ID). By local standards that makes us practically family (to seal the deal, she enveloped me in a neighbourly hug when the interminable paperwork had been completed :p).
Some of her spiel might have been flannel, but am delighted to report Saleslady was being truthful about the 'phone; the River are offering the same model for £80+ more than the £130 she charged me. :T
Robin's homework for the next [STRIKE]week[/STRIKE] month is learning how to use the thing! :rotfl:

    Other spends: 'Phone credits - £25. CD's gloop** - £25. Groceries / "Desires" for F&F - £85. Spare water filter - £3.

** Since her access to free avocado suppers has been curtailed, CD is getting through an extra quarter-pack of gloop every day. However, the vague symptoms of toxicity she was exhibiting - including her swollen eye - seem to have resolved completely.
Am resigned to increasing CD's food budget; she's worth it. :)

Thanks to Satchmo and Missrlr for your comments re cost of RDG. :T
Both much more like the figure I'd guessed at - although had allowed extra for a bay window and a 'picture wall' - one end of the living room is all glass, with sliding doors into the garden.

The estimate we've got from a market-leader is confusing; a scruffy scrawl which ignores all the categories and boxes printed on the company form.
Have discerned that the basic price is just shy of £23K.
However, the salesman told T2 they'd give a credit of almost £14K if they could have the old units 'for recycling' - so the bottom line is <£9K.
..Almost double what I'd budgeted. :(

Which rather begs the question; if they value the existing units so much more highly than their own company's brand new replacements, is it worth doing the job at all?

SbO, so sorry to read of your health troubles (((gentle hugs))). Hope you're on the mend now. :grouphug:

Missrlr, you've already helped with my hassles re THEM, by explaining where I went wrong filling in the on-line tax return. Tbh am hoping a mate's DH - who just happens to be a senior inspector - will kindly check my figures and intercede with the officials who are in pursuit. :o

    Sparky - hope you're having a wonderful honeymoon! :D
Thanks for offering to assist. :)

Chev, doing the TR on-line was where I made an expensive mistake! :o

Many thanks again to everyone for caring.. :smileyhea

    Dear FS

I am delurking firstly to say I've just finished reading your diary, as so many others have said you write so beautifully and am full of admiration for the challenges you face. Especially hearing your voice of ME as I have recently been diagnosed with CFS which I think is similiiar.

Windows - we were advised we needed to buy new patio doors by one co. Another who came to mend a skylight said oh no they just need adjusting. - took out his tools and did it - good as new. Worth looking for. Small company itch those ethics. don't like the sound of your quote. Although said patio window and its next door window transformed in to bifold doors was quoted '000's

    Lastly tummy tickled to CD.

    Love BM
