Tyson learnt a new one today...

'Stop digging my b****y lawn!' which apparently means dig as fast as possible and then hurtle back in to the house to wipe muddy paws on the cream carpet before I catch him!
  • Lucy knew 'tree', which was when she went the wrong side of a tree on her lead, she knew to back up and go round, worked for lampposts too.
Also 'shake' for shaking outside on the doorstep before going inside when wet.

My thirteen year old Labrador's vocabulary recognition:

Sit, stay, bed, down, no ! good boy, bad boy, whoa (slows down),
Where's Dad ? (goes to look for OH)
Where's Mum ? (goes to look for me)
Where's your bone ? (goes to toy box and gets something, not necessarily a bone)
Does <name> want a drink of milk ? (dog sits by fridge)
Does <name> want some dinner ? (dog sits by bowl and does sort of half rears)
Go and have a pee (dog pushes open back door goes in garden)
Do you want a walk ? (runs around madly)
    W-A-L-K (runs around madly)

The dawg has his own non verbal comms skills. If he wants a walk, he jumps up at his lead and moves it on hook. If he wants a stroke he puts his head on knee or sits on our feet leaning against legs. If he wants to go in the garden he sits by the back door. If he wants milk he looks at his bowl then the fridge and lays in front of it. If he wants meat/poultry cooking in the oven he lays down in front of it. If he thinks its time for dinner and it's late he prowls around the kitchen huffing and pausing by the dogfood tins in the kitchen trolley. And he begs for everything edible or not.

He never got the concept of fetch though

Just the basics really. Sit, down, stay, heel, in your bed, leave it and off (the furniture).

He also responds to "see 'em off" which means get really excited for no apparent reason.
  • My lovely but dim and extremely stubborn boy greyhound knows "No" and "ah-ah" (as in stay where you are as you are heading for trouble) and also knows his name but that's about it :o

The girl greyhound responds to her name with a twitch of the tail and then carries on with whatever she was doing.... :rotfl:

My two huskys are like many dogs on here know but it ignore it. Someone once told me having a husky is like having a constant 2 year old in the house and it is so true.

    They know

Down (to get them off the sofa or off me)
Good Huskey cages (normally for feeding or if someone is coming in)
    Paw
    Sit
Take nicely (they have to put their nose on our hand before we give them any treats)
Be nice (if a cat has come in the room and we have to get the cat out and the dog gets to close)
    Sing
    Give cuddles

    The boy knows

    Codey toilet
    Codey bedtime

    They certainly do not know

    Leave it alone
    Don't do that
Are you meant to be doing that
    Will you two behave
    Stop pulling
    Is that yours
Did I say you could do that
    Go away

Wow my two are little so & sos lol
