Break them down into steps, much more achievable then :)

That is a great vid! Love the end :)

The training is not as easy as the video makes it look though because the dog already knew the commands.

    What is the clicker used?

Our 12 week old lab knows sit, down, wait, come, paw, kiss, in your bed, play dead and is just learning roll over!

Your dog plays dead at only 12 weeks old and I was impressed with my two just sitting and giving both paws at that age :D Do you have a video to share?

I haven't really taught them anything since sit, give paw & other one - it's just commands they have picked up and learnt without treats as I talk to them a lot. Now I really want to teach them other commands which will involve a bit of training, patience and lots of treats.

'Kiss' is another command they picked up very quick too.

Not sure if this will work - click on the pic and it should link to the video

My brother's lab does the cutest one - Say 'On trust' and he'll just look at the treat you've put near him (on the floor/on his paw/on your hand/on the poofie). He'll look at it, look at you, look back at it, but he won't eat it until you say 'paid for'. It's the cutest thing! I've even left him outside the library (only popped in for one min to return a book) and come out and he's still 'on trust', with the biscuit uneaten until I told him 'paid for'. :)
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Yes it works, Cooper is fab. I have never seen a pup play dead. My two were little monkeys (into everything and double the trouble) at that age so I was happy with just getting them to sit and give both paws. How long did it take him to learn how to play dead?

Not long - he's a damn quick learner - we have 'training' sessions for about 5-10 mins at a time and it probably took about 3 sessions!

He will also do the waiting for a treat thing where you can put a treat in front of his nose or even on his paw and he won't touch it until you tell him he can.

Scruffball knows sit, paw, brown paw, white paw (cynically exploiting him having different coloured front legs), down, over, come (allegedly), biscuits (much much much more likely to get him to come back as a command!), touch (tap hand with nose), heel, close (looser than heel - just walk nearby me but not strictly in the heel position), leave it (remove nose from wherever it shouldn't be), stay, please (one paw beg), big please (double paw beg), gerroff the sofa, bed, basket (he doesn't generalise well - couldn't figure out flat pillow type dog beds were the same thing as a hard dog basket)... other words he responds to are din-dins, walkies and he goes and sits hopefully by the door when hears us discussing "take the dogs out"

Greyhound knows down (not very good at this one), come (I'd never trust this in a non-enclosed area with her though) and sit - the sit on command's on the unusual side for a greyhound to do (their legs get everywhere so it's not often you'll see one doing it) but since she naturally sat quite a lot of the time anyway - I put the command to it... trouble is in her world it translates to "I want that, I've done a sit, you like me doing sits, now give me it NOW." Greyhound doesn't respond to clicker training (she doesn't like the noise) and shaping things like downs with treats to guide her into position doesn't work that easily since her flipping neck means she can just reach down and grab 'em anyway - so it's very much a case of having to capture the natural behaviour and gradually put a name to it with her.

Try the kikopup videos on youtube - she's really good.

Thats quite a list! I can work out what most of them are but "back legs"...???

Not got a dog right now but Mums lab with do the normal sit, stay, wait, to the side (she gets walked in a cycle path so this is to get her out of the way of bikes) she will also sit-down-rollover but only for me:T next time going up next week will try and get her to play dead, her most adorable thing is though if have a tissue and say bless you she'll sneeze, she only does it when you have a tissue in your hand though quite amusing when the whole family has a cold!

Tidy up - pick up all your toys at put them in the basket.

Find <name of person> - Go to the person in question and sit there.

Find <name of toy> - Find toy and bring it. Yes, we have a name for every piece of toy she got.

I found the pee and poo commands the hardest to train.
