No one has said i need to for any particular reason.
Well I'll say it (again) then...

A manufacturer can attach any condition he likes to his guarantee.
If he decides that he will not provide a guarantee unless you register the product, then there is nothing you can do about it.

A manufacturer has no statutory obligation to provide any support to you, the consumer, unless you have bought the thing directly from them.

This is because a manufacturer's guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights.

Having said that, I have seen nothing to say that registering the product is actually a condition of Vax's guarantee.

    Will they?

I expect they will ask when it was purchased and request proof of purchase.

    I wouldn't care who fixed it :)
    And rightly so.

But if the retailer will not fix it, because for example he believes it is user damage, who do you turn to then?

Sometimes manufacturers are easier to deal with than retailers.

Exactly, i'm not saying you (any of you) are wrong

I just want confirmation / proof that there isn't a guarantee without the card

The only way you will get that is by asking Vax.

Maybe not, but VAX would be within their rights to refuse to help if it is.
