I've just bought a Vax vacuum and there is a card saying register online for your FREE 1 year guarantee?
What?! Surely i don't need to as i have a receipt?
I don't have to give them my details, do i?

Your contract is with the retailer so why would you need to fill in the card or do it online.
Those registration cards tend to lead to more marketing spam and extended warranty offers being sent to you.0 -
I agree totally, totally marketing scam.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Well exactly! thats what i thought0

This is what they're trying to use to make me act0

All the retailer needs to provide is your statutory rights (SOGA) VAX need to give you nothing. If you don't fill it in VAX can refuse to help whilst the retailer can ask for an independent report to state the fault is inherent after 6 months. So tbh it's worth filling it in for a years peace of mind at least, after that SOGA applies.0

Your contract is with the retailer; Vax aren't under any obligation to give you a warranty at all if they don't want to.
They are offering you a year's warranty if you register. You can take it or leave it. This is separate to your rights with the retailer under the Sale of Goods Act.
However, if the store goes bust, then the appliance fails, you could be left high and dry.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Big chains of shops never go bust!
Fill it in, and VAX will look after you if there is a problem and Tesco for some reason won't play ball. It's an extra, take it or leave it! Edit - you can always tick the 'dont hassle me' boxes0 -
And the sky may fall in, but...
I don't see why i should fill it in. It doesn't say what may happen if i don't.
I may not have even seen the card in the box!
Well should something happen after 6 months enjoy the hassle you will go through with Tesco to get the problem rectified which could leave you without a vacuum for some time."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0
