Changes in skin and other body tissues can often be caused by diet so I was just wondering if it could be from the fasting and if anyone else has had anything like it.

Have you changed your diet or are you just eating less of what you normally ate before starting 5:2?

Out tonight with some work colleagues so no fast today. Changing to tomorrow & Friday. I'll have 2 scrambled eggs tomorrow on toast & Friday I'll have a couple of Mr M's Thai fishcakes with some veg.
Had family round on Sunday so big roast dinner & pud - I didn't stint but I didn't pig out either & my weight has stayed stable ;)

  • Interesting to know if this diet does change skin or other tissues, my facial skin is rather spotty. I noticed this morning when I woke up, yesterday as a fast day so I did wonder if the two was connected.

On saying that I haven't felt all that well today. I've picked at food but not eat very much, enough food for it to be over 500 cals so I can't count today as another fast day, but wish I had now :(

I watched the programme and have read the book and noticed in it there is a short paragraph about fasting from 2pm to 2pm the next day as an alternative. I have given it a go and find it easier.

Has anyone else tried this and is it as effective?

Diet is the cause of many minor ailments. Spots are unavoidable for some people, but a 'perfect' diet would minimise them. Your body is like any man-made machine, good maintenance and it will be far more efficient and reliable.

You are fasting for 24 hours instead of the 32ish one would do if they slept, fasted, slept. So the effect is unlikely to be the same as the body doesn't shut down during sleep.

It is better to find a plan that works for you, no point forcing yourself to do 32 hours if you are going to fail and relapse.

The hours fasting is the key point, the longer you fast the more benefit you get, the greatest benefits have been seen in fasts that last for many days. Of course that isn't doable for most people, in which shorter fasts come in to get a good amount of the benefits in a form that is tolerable.

Yes this is what I thought. The paragraph on 2 to 2 in the book is very short and doesnt give much other information, I was actually surprised to see it in there as an option, but I cant see how it is as good as doing a full day fast.

I may use it sort term to ease myself into the all day fast.

Some alternate day fasters use this method as you are still fasting for 24hours. If you read Eat, Stop, Eat, by Brad Pilon, even fasting for as little as(!) 15- 18 hours can be beneficial health wise.

Mainly just eating less although I am trying to cut out things like crisps, chocolate, alcohol etc to help me be healthier.

What made me think it could be the fasting is that not eating makes your body produce the healing hormone - so is the healing making my body chuck out all the crap that is in it hence spots etc?

I like your'fuzzy logic' mamjak but I can see where you're coming from! If we're giving organs time to rest & recuperate its not unreasonable to think that they have time to do a 'proper clean'. The side effects will probably abate after a few weeks so worth sticking with it
