  • If people don't mind, could they post their fast day meals (with approximate calorific values if possible) so that others can get ideas.... Thanks! :)

This is what I have been eating - bare in mind, I have only had 2 fast days up to now. Monday and Thursday.

I've been getting my food from the co op using the meal deal option.
2x king prawn noodle salad 280 cals
1x tomato and basil soup 65 cals
    1x fruit tub 40 cals

    = 385 cals

I have bought noodles and salad to make my own salad this week, it will be cheaper and hopefully around the same calories. I'm also going to make my own veg soup. I will use myfitnesspal for the calories in the veg I will use and then just portion it up.

I've also been drinking green tea with lemon (Tetleys) and thats 1cal a cup.

Home made soups have been my best option on fast days. Also had innocent smoothie this week as felt like I need high dose of fruit.
Still new at this so agree with you, it would be great if people could post their meal plans for fast days.

  • I stared the 5:2 diet earlier this week and today is my second fast day. I found it easier when I was busy at work as my mind was distracted away from my rumbling tummy but I have struggled to stick to 500 calories today whilst being at home.

Does anyone know whether it is acceptable to end the fast exactly 24 hours after last eating? For example, if I had dinner at 6pm yesterday would it be okay to break the fast at 6pm today?

Fast day today had a huge piece of stuffed squash with cabbage for dinner. less than 400 calories.

Does anyone have any ideas for a low cal pudding treat to be had on a friday that really feels like you are spoiling yourself??

Really feel i need a treat on that night but so hard not to overindulge and ruin my weeks good work.

Wouldn't it be easier to not have a fast day on Friday? I like a beer on a Friday so my fast days are Tuesday and Thursday.

As far as fast day meal plans go, I just have a bowl of soup and a slice of toast. It's a bit unimaginative but it's only for one day. :)
  • so fast day 1 is done & sat here with a bowl of bran flakes & sultanas, 2nd cup of tea & no guilt!! I broke my fast at 6pm after just drinking L&G Tea all day. Had a punnet ot cherry toms whilst waiting for my soup to heat thru, Heinz Big Soup followed by an Activia yoghurt & several cups of tea with skimmed milk thru evening total cals 460. I was bought the Hairy Dieters Cookbook for my birthday as every meal is calorie counted. Whilst its just been me on the fast I've eaten something readyprepared & counted like the soup & cooked a meal for my family (we don't usually eat until 7:30pm & I can't wait that long!!) but my husband wants to give it a go in a couple of weeks time so I'm gonna try out the recipes in the book. Weekend off now & next fast day Monday - good luck everyone

I dont fast on friday's but am trying to keep control over my diet all the time as I don't think that the 'eat anything you want on normal days' philosophy will be any good for me. I get major sweet tooth cravings on a friday night (usually because i'm knackered!) and just want to be able to treat myself without going back to bad habits of few bars of chocolate.
I just thought that I might get some good ideas from the people on here as they are more health conscious than the Grocery forum that I follow.

bit the bullet & got out the scales & measuring tape this morning - have been off work for best part of 3 weeks with this nasty lurgy, which resulted in anti-biotics, no exercise as could barely breathe, & hanging around the house over Christmas with all the nice food around has been hell on my weight loss - have gained 7lb!! - felt really despondent as it meant I'd crept back over the 11st mark but had a look at my weight in January 2012 & 2011 & even with the weight gain I'm still 10lb & 17lb less respectively so it could be worse. First fast day of 2013 today even though I'm still home, am now able to walk the dogs & will be back in work on Monday, I usually do a Monday & Friday as they're our 2 busiest days & keep me occupied, hopefully the rest of the staff would have eaten all the Xmas goodies. So next Saturday morning will weigh in after 3 fast days & hope for at leasr 3lb, as this will put me back in the 10's & give me a psychological boost.

That is exactly what has happened to me:eek: Before Christmas I got down to 10st 11lb but after Christmas/New Year was up to 11st 4lb:eek::eek:

Have now got down to 11st 1lb, but psychologically I need to get back below 11st to get my motivation back on track.
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

Ah, I see. Personally, I don't think the eat anything you want philosophy is any good for anybody unless they keep a check on the quantities. At the end of the week, overall, you need to have consumed less calories than your body normally requires in order to lose the fat.
