Fast Day for me today. So far so good as I've only had black tea and water. Have a small 100 calorie snack for when I need it, gym after work and then home for dinner.

3 fast days this week, was planning on 2 but i'd got through until 4pm without any food yesterday, so just turned that into an extra one.

really hoping the scales will be kind tomorrow, i think they should be ok as i know i've lost this week. we were away xmas/new year &, as i typically do whilst on holiday, i managed to put 8lbs on! don't think it's fat as i usually lose it all again the first week back home & being 'normal' again.

onwards & upwards with the fasting, i'm pretty hopeful for the coming months :)

Just wanted to join you and see if this works for me! First fasting day today, managed quite well! I would like ideally to loose around 1 stone in weight. People tell me i don't need it( i'm a size 12) but I would like to do it for me and my general health. Weight this morning was 65.5 kg :(
  • the scales are my friend! :D 8lbs gone again so i'm back where i was just before xmas.

have a good week everyone :)

    Hi all,

Last year I had three months on the 5:2, but can't really say if it worked weight-loss wise, as for the past ten years I've refused to weigh myself/have scales in the house :o

Anyhoo, New Year, new regime & all that so thought I'd bite the bullet (at least they're not fattening, lol!) & buy some bathroom scales. I knew I had gained a fair bit - mainly since moving from city to countryside six years ago as I do far less walking now (don't drive & apart from a very good village shop nothing is within walking distance here & pavements are pretty much non-existent) and my dress size has increased from an 8 to a large 10/small 12 :(

So, having plucked up the courage to get on the scales, then do a BMI check, I find I'm within the healthy boundaries for my height & have a BMI of 24.3, but despite this I'm not happy with the total lack of self-confidence being that much larger than previously has inspired. I hope to get back to the weight I was ten-fifteen years ago which means losing two stone :o

So instead of 5:2, I've now decided to do Alternate Day fasting & will eat 500 cals spread across the day on fasting days & up to 1500 on non-fasting days. That said, although I began the new regime on the 2nd Jan, I initially began by only fasting two out of seven days & only started the AD fasting on Wednesday this week - so as of today (non-fast day) I've fasted four out of ten days. However, as I didn't get the new scales till 8th Jan, I can only report a loss since then of 1lb, which I realise will be water........

Am attempting to do far more by way of exercise too. We do have two dogs, but due to lack of pavements & high volumes of traffic (even out here in the sticks, lol!) we usually drive to where they have their main walk of the day, partly 'cos one is only six months so can only do a half-hour walk. Notwithstanding this issue I am going to do as much walking as poss - especially if it stays dry like today :) - & also am compiling a workout fit for a non-sporty 40-something like myself ;) Although as we're doing a major house renovation (mainly DIY) I should be keeping quite fit filling skips etc, lol!

Despite loving food, I actually quite enjoy eating less on the fasting days - not sure if I could go without altogether though - but yesterday was the first time I'd felt a bit faint, it being the first time I'd fasted on alternate days (fasted Wednesday & Friday and will be fasting again Sunday)......hopefully it won't take long to adjust as this morning I didn't feel hungry at all.

I'm another of those that finds breakfast makes me hungrier - since my teens I've rarely bothered with it - & as I don't drink milk (never have since age of three) cereals are a bit boring, lol! Neither do I drink tea or coffee, water being my usual tipple throughout the day - wine has been restricted to once a week as a treat with maybe a slimline G&T occasionally - or if it's cold I'll have a hot Ribena (not on fast days obviously!).

Now I just need to convince DH to join me - he's an odd one, in that he eats far more fruit than me. I hate apples (unless cooked), oranges & bananas but love kiwis, melon, raspberries, apricots) but also pigs out on loads of boiled sweets, chocolate & his fave, Red Bull (god knows why, it tastes vile) He doesn't look it, but is a little overweight & his BMI is 28 :(

    Wish me luck ;)

Good luck phoebe, you'll soon get used to the new regime and won't feel hungry on your fasting days.

I'm still doing 3 days a week so am more IF than 5.2, but i do follow the 5.2 rules otherwise.

I too don't have breakfast on fast days for the same reason as you As soon as I start eating stuff, I just want more.

I've lost 3 1/2 stone since the end of May (28th) last year. I could stop now I suppose, but might just do another stone.
Mortgage free as of 10/02/2015. Every brick and blade of grass belongs to meeeee. :j

Hi everyone around 3lbs off this week:D need to lose a few more to get back where I was but this 5:2 has become a way of life for me now and I have to admit I like being on it. If I am being honest, it's the boredom that gets to me more on fast days rather than the hunger -I just love cooking & love food. So I think that this will always be an uphill struggle for me, but I plan to keep on trying.

    Next fast day Monday.
