Someone I know has done the 5:2 for about 16 months, and says his cholesterol had shot up in a recent test. Don't think he's saying it's necessarily linked, but just wondering if anyone else had heard about increased cholesterol on the 5:2?

That was more like a 5 day fast every 30 or 60 days. TBH I couldn't be bothered with that. Also it goes against one of the precepts of the 5:2 diet, warrior diet and 16:8 eating plan that the fast period is short enough not to trigger the body's "starvation" mode.

    'TWAS THE MONTH AFTER CHRISTMAS'
Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house,
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The biscuits I'd nibbled, the champagne I'd taste,
All the holiday parties had gone to my waist. When I got on the scales there arose such a number! When I walked to the shops (less a walk, more a lumber).I'd remember the marvellous meals I'd prepared; The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese,And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt,And prepared once again to do battle with dirt,I said to myself, as I only can,"You can't spend all Summer disguised as a man!"So-away with the last of the sour cream dip,Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip,Every last bit of food that I like must be banished,'Til all the additional ounces have vanished.I won't have a biscuit - not even a lick.I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.I won't have hot scones, or cake, or fruit pie,I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore,But isn't that what January is for?Unable to laugh, no longer a riot.Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

    Happy New Year Everyone!

Arghhhh! I braved the scales today (surely there must be a mistake I thought) but no after jumping on and off several times, the awful truth became clear. I have gained rather too many lbs over Christmas and the New Year. My 1st proper fast day of the New Year is tomorrow thank goodness. I agree, how come it takes so long to knock off the lbs and in just a few short naughty weeks half of them are back on again. I really need to focus now and get rid of them ASAP.

I'm back to my normal routine so today is a fast day for me. I bought some Miso Soup thinking I would have it at lunch time for an amazing 21 calories but I don't like it so I've saved myself about 20 of those for later.:p

Whats the max allowed calories on fast days?

And, really for non-fast days too?
