What do you eat on fast days? One 500 cal meal or a couple of snacks?

I eat once a day, as an evening meal. Just drink plenty throughout the day.

Mrs E I just noticed what you said about your diet. You can stick with this if you are actually enjoying it but the beauty of the 5:2 is that you can eat whatever you enjoy on non fast days and still lose weight. On fast days it doesn't matter whether you spread the 500 calories over the day or just eat one meal. As long as you don't go over that too much you just do whatever suits you.

On fast days I find it easier not to eat at all until dinner time then eat a normal meal.

Agree with this! I find it so much easier to wait til dinner - if I eat at lunch it just makes me hungry. My mum, on the other hand, starts to feel sick and dizzy if she doesn't eat by about 2pm so she usually has some fruit or soup at lunch and the rest of her cals for dinner...and she's still losing weight. SO I think it's about finding what makes it easiest for you and sticking with it.

  • I'm only 3 weeks into trying this diet but on fast days I've had no breakfast, a low cal soup for lunch (around 70cals), vegetable sticks and piece of fruit for snacks, and then the majority on my dinner (around 300 cals).

Today is another fast day for me. I made a spicy tomato and lentil soup for lunch today which comes in at about 195 calories, snack of fruit and eggs of somesort for dinner later.
  • Well today *was* a fast day for me! Didn't quite work out though! We have lots of Indian contractors in our office and today they made us all an absolute feast to celebrate Diwali. I couldn't possibly resist, the food was delicious! Will try again tomorrow!

Isn't that one of the best things about this 'diet'? ;) It doesn't get in the way of other, much nicer things! Fast day for me as well.

Goodness, where is everyone! I haven't contributed to this thread but I am a silent follower. I enjoy reading about the success people have on this regime. I started following it, very loosely, about 6 months ago and have dropped about 6lbs. I am fairly happy now with my weight - although if I were to lose another 4lbs I wouldn't complain! I do 'light' eating days twice a week in that I drastically cut the calories I consume but I never get as low as 500 kcal. Monday and Thursday (can vary if necessary) I skip breakfast, have HM tomato & lentil soup for lunch, HM low-cal prawn curry (with half a portion of Zero Noodles - 4 kcal) in the evening and then have an apple and banana about 9pm. [I have the fruit because when I didn't I found I woke up in the morning feeling dizzy and sick.] During the day I drink hot water, tea without milk, coffee with a little milk, and half strength Options hot chocolate. I find that by doing this twice a week I can eat what I want the other days and don't gain any weight.

Anyway the reason I am posting is because last night (not one of my 'light' days) I was having a creamy chicken curry and thought I would enjoy some Naan bread. To compensate for this over-indulgence I decided to try out 'Cauliflower Rice' [if you want the recipe then Google it because I am not good at links]. Now I am not a huge cauli fan unless it is smothered in a nice cheese sauce but I gave it a try. Wow! Half a cauli provided plenty 'rice' for DH and I and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I am not sure whether it has been mentioned on this thread before but I will not be shelling out £1.99 again for 'Zero Noodles' (actually I never have, always stocking up when they are on offer in good MS style) when I can use a bit of cauli instead and it contributes a bit to my fruit/veg intake.

Good luck everyone - and get posting again!

I've been ill for the last week (changing tablets) and have had 2 days in a row of fasting which I definitely wasn't planning. What's annoying is my weight hasn't even moved, I think because I'm dehydrated.

Still, overall have been keeping to my plan :) Even if not by choice.
