This will be my last contribution to this thread as I will be unsubscribing after this post but wanted to offer you all something to read and think about in regards to using only scales to monitor your weight loss.

Measuring your weight alone tells you NOTHING about the quality of the weight you are losing.

How do you know if you are losing fat, water, or worse, muscle? If you are using just a scale you have no idea. Losing or gaining 5 pounds of fat over a weekend is physiologically impossible, but the scale has convinced many that it can happen. A significant portion of those playing the weight loss game believe the weight they lose or gain on a day to day basis is fat. And the popular media and weight loss experts do nothing to help them understand that not only is this not true, but it also is one of the major reasons they continue to suffer from yo-yo weight regain and can’t lose fat as they age.

    You can read more here....

Sorry you are leaving the 5:2 thread but I do understand. Stay well and best of luck.

I will see your posts elsewhere on the site.

    Morning all,

I've had a succesful 5:2 week in that I've managed two fast days and came in just under 500 on each of them, and lost a bit too :)

I am finding fast days less daunting than when I started this and through trial and error I've worked out that the easiest way for me to stay within the 500 calorie zone is (apart from my daily apple) by using cup soups and crackers, where the calorific content is clearly marked on the packet.

I know that type of food may make some shudder with horror, but it works for me on those 2 fast days; it's exact and easy to count - I need simplicity and precision :o

Sunday morning is my weighing and measuring time and I've lost another lb this week and half an inch from my hips.

Slower loss than I'd hoped, but over all 4lbs gone and stayed gone. If it takes a bit longer than I'd hoped, to reach my target, then it just takes a bit longer, that's all.

How's everyone else done this week ?
    SAVER o:)

What is the point of counting calories in if you have no idea of what is coming out the other end? eat a load of fibre and much sugar and fat will just pass through. (note some cultures burn poo because of its high calorific content) on the other hand eat £500 cals of sugar and it will probably get nearly all absorbed.

What is £500 cals of sugar?

The point is in reducing your intake, what comes out the other end is hardly relevant on a reducing plan, if you eat a load of over proccessed stuff with no fibre a lot of stuff will pass through you unabsorbed as a sort of slime as well.

You could lost weight eating McDonalds everyday if you stuck to your calorie goals. A calorie is a calorie. Burn 3500 extra and you've burnt a lb it doesn't matter how you burn it, through cutting calories you're eating or exercise, if you burn them, you will drop weight.

How you feel and how your shape changes as you lose weight is affected by what you eat and what exercise you do, but to simply lose weight it's simple maths.

Fast day for me today. I found some bean vermicelli which I made into a soup today and were pretty good, not nearly as low calorie as the other noodles though.

I'm still trying to avoid weighing and measuring myself too much so may try sticking to once a month but I have noticed a big difference on my control on non fast days and I no longer eat so much rubbish. I've had a half packet of chocolate at home for 9 days. That is a miracle for me!

    I've been Money Tipped!
Today 'should' have been a fast day for me according to routine. After a diificult health weekend and knowing tomorrow is good for me to fast ( out at hospital ) I decided to eat today instead.
  • I've stopped this diet. I found I was just eating too much. I don't have enough willpower to do it. I need more structure so have swapped to something else. My mum on the other hand has done really well on this diet.
  • Hi all

Thanks for all the congratulations. It feels like it all happened a million years ago now but now we're back from NYC we can start to enjoy it and plan the wedding!

Had an absolute ball in New York and ate a ridiculous amount! Got home yesterday and weighed myself...5lb gain- ouch!!! But weighed myself again this morning and only 2lbs so I'm hoping that was just down to all the food they kept throwing at us on the plane!! Official weigh in is always a Thursday so if I'm still at a 2lb gain by then I'll be delighted!

Looking forward to getting back to fasting, Thursday will probably be the first day I can manage one then back to Mondays again!

Hope everyone is doing well x

A calorie is a unit of energy. 1 pound of uranium will deliver a lot more than 3500 calories in anuclear reactor. 3500 calories do not weigh 1 pound You are confusing biology with physics which to be fair is what the diet industry wants you to do 2 pounds of protein would give the same energy as a pound of fat so you could say burn 3500 calories and lose 2 pounds. Both would be complete rubbish
