Oh Dear. Your body looks to food for energy and nutrients. Starve it of either and it doesnt like it. It starts storing sand increasing fat levels. Much of the energy goes on keeping your body in a very narrow temperature band. If you drink water at a high temperature your body can shut down the heat process saving you calories on the other hand drink ice cold water and your body has to start the heater up. water has no countable calories though but it does have the ability to affect your body. There is much more going on than simply using an arbitary calorie guideline

Yet again your lack of reading comprehension has failed you.

And the whole calorie thing is an arbitrary guideline at best, as everyone understands except you, who seems think other people are using it as a hard and fast rule. Though if you wish to debate calorie control I suggest you find one of the threads where that is the subject. This one is about the 5:2 diet.

If your body is storing sand you are certainly one of Mr Pratchets trolls.

  • Yesterday was a fast day. Ended on 567 calories so I'm happy with that, sisn't struggle either despite colleagues all eating swets/choc/baguettes/chips in front of me!!

Currently only managing 6:1 for last and this week as I've been too busy! Hopefully back to 5:2 next week though.

Please, the best thing is just to ignore Mr Helpful, don't get drawn into an discussion with him.

Not very easy I know, I was guilty myself the other day.

If he gets no attention then maybe he will disappear again and leave this thread for what it's meant to be about.

Sorry folks - I should know better.
Here's a wee song to thank him for his input.

I've set myself a target to loose 3 stone in 6 months. I favour plenty of lower fat protein, lots of veg and minimum amounts of carbs, only lentils, veg & high fiber cereal, no pots, pasta, rice, noodles, bread, etc.

I guess I could do that & do the 5:2 as well.

How are people finding their weight loss?

I find my weight loss staggering! I was morbidly obese to start with, my BMI was 45.52 now 34.9. I have lost 5 stone in 6 months with a variation of 5:2. (I do 4:3)

I have also completed the Couch to 5K and continue to jog at least 4 times a week with walking or Wii Active on the other days. I have never stuck to any 'diet' this long. I find it suits me and will continue with it until I reach maintenance where I will probably drop to 6:1.

I like to fast and don't find it difficult. I don't particularly do low carb or anything else although my eating habits have changed, I don't eat unless I'm hungry ;) I haven't eaten bread for years anyway as I'm yeast intolerant but still have potatoes/rice/pasta.

Do you fast all together or on alternate days?
  • Somehow...in 12 days where I have sold my flat, bought a house, got engaged, had my OH's 30th birthday and went to new York for 5 days and not fasted at all...I have managed to lose 0.5lb at my official weigh in...no idea how but I am delighted!

Back to fasting today and finding it fine so far! Phew!

I fast on Mon, Wed and Fri, I find it easier to stick to as I know when I can/can't eat in the week. The routine helps for me although the chance to swap and change also makes it easier to stick to.

What do you eat on fast days? One 500 cal meal or a couple of snacks?

I was planning on a fast day yesterday but wasn't in the mood so switched to today instead.
