5:2 diet

  • I know all about taking measurements I'm a cheerleader for the tape measure. But I haven't shifted a cm either - if anything I'm a bit bigger this month.

So I'll take the weight loss this month rather than the inch gain.

    I've been Money Tipped!
If people stopped worrying about the number on the scales and started concentrating on the numbers on a tape measure, especially those regularly working out, I'm sure you'd all feel much better ;)

Weight means nothing really, as I've demonstrated before.

I used to use a mixture.

I liked scales because its quick, easy and any more serious and unexpected fluctuations confirmed my the skinny jean test can be addressed quickly.

ATM though I don't check at all. i know how my clothes fit. ( or not) and my medical team monitor my weight :(. I find this hard but I'm trying to relax about the whole thing, keep the emotional pressure off .

I've noticed a few comments and opinions from you about 5:2 and I often wonder if you have followed this plan and had success yourself ?

If so, I'd really like to hear how much weight you managed to lose and how long it took you ?

If not, I wonder why you would keep visiting this thread & making negative comments, towards those who are actually taking positive action to improve their health and lives ?

I don't view my comments as negative but coming from a nutritionist's point of view, I'd rather help people have a healthier approach to food and weight loss. If people find that to be a negative aspect then I apologise but it may be that some people could learn from somebody more knowledge and experienced in such matters.

And yes, I have undergone weight loss...over 9 stone actually within the last 3 years. I don't particularly follow the 5:2 way of eating but I do often fast intermittently so certainly have personal experience :)

    Oooh congratulations Pink Petal!! :D

I'm going to have a fast day tomorrow. My first week of doing 6:1. I started 30 Day Shred on Sunday. Have done 4 days but have rested today because of a niggle in my ankle. It isn't half hard work though. Dreading level 2 as everyone says it's the worse. No shift in my weight for a while or my measurements but I'm looking forward to seeing the results of the DVD.

    Congratulations Pink!

I couldn't do yesterday so switched my normal fast day to today instead. Lunch was rice crackers with chickpea pate, slim a soup and pineapple. The soup tasted like water! Later I will have eggs and veg. I'm off out to the cinema tonight as I find distraction is key for my fast days!
  • I prefer to check my body via the scales rather than the tape-measure. It's quicker and easier, and I can keep an easy record on my online calorie counter.

My standard is the one I was told to adhere to during a BUPA health check. It's 63 Kgs. It acts as a control. Currently, I have not been exercising as much as I should, but will be back to swimming next week to keep as toned as a 66-year old can be.

I will continue to weigh, and weigh daily (and yes, I do understand about rounding, and all the rest). This is my control. The tape-measure doesn't change that much, as I don't have much to lose at any one time.

The beauty of this diet is it's simplicity, and that there are no rules (apart from the 500/600 calorie target): how people prefer to manage this is up to them, and I wish everyone on this super regime the best of luck.

This will be my last contribution to this thread as I will be unsubscribing after this post but wanted to offer you all something to read and think about in regards to using only scales to monitor your weight loss.

Measuring your weight alone tells you NOTHING about the quality of the weight you are losing.

How do you know if you are losing fat, water, or worse, muscle? If you are using just a scale you have no idea. Losing or gaining 5 pounds of fat over a weekend is physiologically impossible, but the scale has convinced many that it can happen. A significant portion of those playing the weight loss game believe the weight they lose or gain on a day to day basis is fat. And the popular media and weight loss experts do nothing to help them understand that not only is this not true, but it also is one of the major reasons they continue to suffer from yo-yo weight regain and can’t lose fat as they age.

    You can read more here....

  • Chameleon: why don't you start a separate thread? That way, you could get your message across in a clear and useful way. You would also be able to spread the word a little bit wider, as then you would get other dieting or health regimes included and not just 5:2ers.

I was told I had to be at a certain weight, and that is my control level. I think most of us do know that scales are inaccurate, that BMI does not take into account muscle etc, but this thread is (in my view) to support the 5:2 diet specifically.

It would be lovely if you would start a nutritional thread, and I'm sure many other people would enjoy that.
