I started doing 5:2 near the start of August and it's going very well for me.
I was morbidly obese just under 2 years ago and managed to lose almost 3 stone. I plateaued and mostly fell off the wagon, I managed to keep my weight steady rather than piling it back on and figured the 5:2 way of eating might work.

Like most people seem to I eat most of my fast day allowance as my evening meal, but I usually leave 150 or so calories to have some salad if I'm still hungry later on. I've been finding it surprisingly easy to stick to.

Since August, I've managed to lose about 22lbs :D.

My (tentative) goal is to lose a stone by Christmas, which would move me from "obese" to "overweight" and seems like a huge milestone to me.

    Hi All

DH and I have just this week started this diet and I have subscribed and have enjoyed reading the posts. I need to loose about 1.5 stones and he needs to shed about 3.

I think this diet plan will fit in well for us with the children as we can all eat together the rest of the week and do something special for the children on the 2 fast days.

    I have scoured the supermarkets for ideas and this week the fast days have looked like this;
Breakfast is Oats so Simple made with water (130 cals)
Lunch is half a jar of low fat red pepper pate spread on 5 Crackerbreads (140 cals) plus a 10 calorie jelly
Dinner will be a jacket potato maybe with tuna but I need to work out the calories for this.
Drinks are lashings of cold water and black tea.

I know some people have all their calories in one meal but DH is diabetic so it is better for him to eat more regularly, he may not be able to keep to the 600 calories he is allowed but we will see how it goes for now. I personally prefer smaller snacky typemeals during the day rather than one large meal.

What kind of weightloss is everyone experiencing, I know with 'traditional diets' we're told 1 pound a week is a good rate for keeping the weight off long term.

Good luck everyone and I look forward to reading more hits and tips.

Hi welcome to the 5-2 just one question is there a reason why your font size is smaller than everyone else's ?
Makes it harder to read :)

Ugh, not been fasting this week, have had headaches and migraines and cold/flu symptoms. Quite annoying. Seems I'm far from alone in it. Just don't want to push my body when it's trying to repair.. whatever the hell it's got.

Same here. I feel like I've been run over by a bus so I'm going to have a break from 5:2ing for a while. Weight wise, I've been stalled now for six weeks so it will be interesting to see if I start gaining weight without the fasting.

I'm back doing 16:8 with a vengeance, enough is enough if I don't shift this weight soon I have given myself a deadline of January when I will seek proper medical advice.
I'm doing 2 meals a day plus one or two snacks. Since my worst behaviour is crisps after dinner I am only allowing myself to do this 3 times a week max.
It is slightly extreme but the need to lose weight is pressing so that's what i'll go for at the moment. I am sensible though if I feel too rubbish before my 8 hour eating window starts I will have something. Hopefully once it starts to come off I can relax it a bit.
Haven't been at the scales yet but I did notice my trousers were looser yesterday after a week of really trying. I am determined to stick to it this time!

Tons of people locally and that I know elsewhere in the country are suffering with stomach issues, cold symptoms or daily headaches or migraines - many with 2 or all 3 of them. Most odd. Seems like something has hit everyone for now!

I forgot to say, I've lost 3-4lbs, one of which I think in the last week despite my not dieting, wondering if it's helping my insulin resistance (one reason I'm trying it, as a PCOS sufferer). Can't complain. Only a drop in the ocean at my weight, but quickly at that.
