This seems the easiest way to go if you can't change your fast day. I had lots of comments about my change in eating habits, but they were all interested so it wasn't a problem to explain and now they can see results some people are wondering about joining in :D

Well, yes, I think most people would like to know of a "magic" plan for weight loss, even if they say they don't. Even slim girls sometimes need to shift an extra pound or two, especially for special occassions to fit into lovely dress. And I think this plan is very close to magic:-))

Glad to report we survived yesterday, have to say the Weight Watchers canned soup wasn't nice:-( But Jamie's Baked fish with simple tomato and olives dinner was absolutely fantastic!! Can recommend to everyone.

You could always use the response an exasperated Mrs G used once...

"No, I'm not eating anything. Do you think I get to stay looking like this by stuffing my face at every opportunity?"

    Eat day for me today.

I've been trying some near zero calories on fast days, and haven't managed those too badly. The only issue that I've found, and it's quite a biggie, is how I have eaten on my non fast days.

Before, when having a 500 calorie evening meal, I seemed to have more control during my eat days. I ate what I wanted, but I did find myself asking whether I really wanted or needed something.
After zero calorie fasts, I wanted to eat the whole house, and for the first couple of days pretty much did.

I did a zero cal fast yesterday, which was fine, and so far today I'm not feeling particularly ravenous, yet. :D

Having said all that, I did still manage nearly a 2lb loss this week.:D
  • I'm really thinking about trying the zero calories fast. I find I get so hungry after I've had my 500 calorie dinner. I never used to be so bad but the last two weeks I've always had to have something else after dinner. I just don't know if I'm brave enough!

Feed day for me today, looking forward to a nice lunch but don't know what I fancy!
  • Hello, so I was hoping to join in here.

I've heard a lot about this, watched the Horizon programme and realise I need to do something to stop my excessive snacking or bingeing. I'm hoping if fast 2 days a week I may prove my self control and hopefully get rid of the bad craving for the other days. Oh and I really want to lose weight too!

So I started yesterday with my first fast day. It wasn't as bad as I imagined! Today is an eat day for me and I think my second fast day will be tomorrow.

Interesting article... Very interesting and I think lots of truth in it..
BUT - sounds just like articles written by non fans of mentioned Dukan and Atkins diet at the time of startin 5:2 diet...
AND also consider the hypocricy of saying "5;2 can create obsession with food and overeating on your days of, counting calories etc" and then actually saying that the new craze should be to follow low GI foods... because that is not like you need to watch for low GI foods, create lists of food and new recipes to be able to eat and therefore creating obsession with food and how to eat....

My problem with the 5:2 is not in the science - or not initially, at least. Rather, it’s in the lifestyle changes that so many people experience.

To begin with, fasting is difficult.

I haven't found it particularly hard.
The next big hurdle for 5:2 dieters is the lethargy that results from their dip in energy intake.

I would agree with this. I have to schedule my exercise sessions to fall on a non-fast day.
But, for me, the biggest issue with the diet is not actually the fasting. It’s the days when you stop fasting. With the food fixation that can come from only eating 5-600 calories a day, as soon as you hit a ‘normal’ day the temptation is to binge.

Again, I would agree with this. In my case, after an initial rapid drop in weight it came back on again as I started to overcompensate on non-fast days. I'm back on a downward trend now but it does mean making a concious effort not to overeat... at least for me.

I have no problem exercising intensely on a fast day. And waht research there is has shown a mean overeating of around 10-13% on the first non fast day. Hardly a binge.

Hi guys, im hoping you might be able to answer a couple of my questions as i cant find the answers anywhere.

When fasting, can you have hot water with a slice of lemon in? I am thinking you cant due to the sugar in fruits etc but cant seem to find a conclusive answer anywhere. Also can you have sweetners in your coffee on fast days?

I know these sound like really stupid questions but i would just like to know for sure.

    Thanks :)
