I have to say I do have a low energy levels on a fast days. But I do also find it gets better.

As for overeating on non binge foods - I don't find that at all. My OH definitely enjoys food more I think as he is changing habits. Like eating slower, because on fast days you feel better if you do. He also is aware of calories and carbs now and he definitely snacks less. Only snacks when he actually really wants it, he thinks about it more (sometimes you snack just because something is not right and you are trying to make yourself feel better).

I notice I eat smaller portions on nonfast days too.

But mainly - I don't want to watch what I eat ALL THE TIME. I know about GI and all the fluff about right eating, but fortunately I was brought up on lots of raw vegetable and fruit so I enjoy that kind of food a lot anyway (my 1 big "sin" is salt, though no one is going to take that away from me and the research again keeps changing all the time). But I refuse to think of food and how much of what I have every single day of my life and count GI, sugar, carbs and protein to a dot.

If people go on a "diet" to not eat as much as they would want for 2 days and then make up for it in the days after they are idiots and desrve the kind of disapointment they are going to get when it doesn't work.

Just because some people are stupid, doesn't mean the diet doesn't work.

Hi guys, im hoping you might be able to answer a couple of my questions as i cant find the answers anywhere.

When fasting, can you have hot water with a slice of lemon in? I am thinking you cant due to the sugar in fruits etc but cant seem to find a conclusive answer anywhere. Also can you have sweetners in your coffee on fast days?

I know these sound like really stupid questions but i would just like to know for sure.

    Thanks :)

On fast days you can have 500 calories for women or 600 calories for men per day, does your slice of lemon have more then that? Also you don't have to eat 500 on the dot.. you can have less or few more, the idea is to limit it to "around" that number, to make sure the gene or process if you want to call it "kicks in".

I personally have sweeteners in my drinks, though I always pick natural sweeteners.

    Cheers! That gives me hope.

    :p

I never said it doesn't take to make an effort...
I said people that THINK that any kind of diet will work with eating exactly what they were eating before...
Because that is the way the article was written. It suggested that people knowingly do that.
  • Interesting article but I disagree with most of it. I find I have loads of energy, I never lose concentration at work and I certainly don't obsess over food, unless looking forward to my dinner counts as obsessing!!

My friend is currently doing the low GI diet and it sounds like loads of faff to me. With 5:2 I don't have to worry about what I'm eating (within reason obviously!) and I don't have to buy anything different from usual when I do the shop. This is key for me.

I guess it's up to the individual to decide if a 'diet' is right for them. Different methods will work for different people. For me IF is the easiest and most effective plan for me and I'll keep on doing it as long as I'm happy with it.

I have more energy now than before 5:2, I do my C25K on fast days. I was an over eater and exceptionally lazy with it but this has totally refocused me on what I want to do. I started off walking but not on fast days in case I went dizzy. I have bag loads of energy even on fast days - losing 4 stone has helped ;)
  • Hey everyone,

had a fast day today, all day at work just on coffee and was rather hungry when I got home so I had a 400 calorie meal ... about 200 calories in the coffee.

I'm not stressing about being over the 'recommended' limit as it's still so much less than a normal food day.

Read the Telegraph article but a writer who clearly hasn't tried the eating plan, and quantifies the number of people experiencing hunger or fatigue or whatever it was by the figure "many" can't be taken too seriously :D
    SAVER o:)
  • Fasting to day with the Hairy Dieters beef madras to look forward to! Anyone else in today? :)
  • Fast day for me too. Was ravenous when I woke up this morning but it seems to have passed now thankfully!

Maybe TMI but I've had some toilet issues this week...in that I haven't been for days...anyone else get this? I try to get plenty of fibre as I've heard before it can be a fasting side effect but it's not worked this week obviously. I feel a bit bloated, is there anything I can do?? Usually going for a run helps me but I can't do that yet as my back isn't 100%!

Again, sorry for sharing too much! haha!
