    Hi guys,

Fasting today! Having Tuscan bean soup from 5:2 diet cookbook for lunch and then piece of haddock and roasted tomatoes and courgettes in the evening (also from the book).

Have some radishes for snacks during the day too.

Fasting for me too today. Nothing but liquids all day (black coffee, water, herbal tea) then an egg & avocado salad for dinner :)

  • is anyone else trying the 16:8 plan at all? i only started it last Tues but it seems to suit me better than when i tried 5:2 a while ago. i'm trying to do it every day, eating between 12pm-8pm, yesterday slipped a little to 11.30am-8.30pm, but i'm not worried about that!

i've read some info that seems to suggest that 14:10 might suit women better?

i usually weigh myself on a Saturday & had a bit of a weird result for this 1st week, a 3lb increase. weighed myself again yesterday (just to check !) & the 3lb had gone again?! very odd. so, according to the scales i'm at the same weight as when i started. i made the mistake of not measuring myself but i absolutely know that i've lost 'something' as my waist has re-appeared!

have a good week, whichever plan you're following :)

Hi everyone - I've been holding off posting because I wanted to get to the 'half stone' mark on my scales and I've finally done it. I've lost almost half a stone. It's taken me a few weeks though. Now I'm aiming for the 'stone' itself.

I'd unpacked some cropped jeans for the summer and they were really tight so I couldn't wear them, but I tried them on yesterday and they fit with plenty of room. :) I am so pleased. I try to read this thread every day as it keeps me focussed.

On fast days I skip breakfast, have a little bit of yoghurt at lunchtime and small salad or similar in the evening.

It's better for me to spread my 500 calories so that I don't get the awful hollow feeling in my stomach due to my meds (another reason for yoghurt at lunchtime) and I've been drinking loads of water which is unusual for me.

I must have some really bad stuff in my body as I've been plagued with spots, or is this just a coincidence? I'm not usually a spotty person!

I also have few more spots but I thought it was coincidence...
Not so sure now! Anyone else has the same experience?

I have been doing this since last Tuesday.

I lost around half a stone at the beginning of the year doing 5:2 and maintained doing 6:1 untl my holiday in July when I put on 4lbs in a fortnight! I have really struggled to get back to 5:2 as my life has been so hectic I just haven't been able to fit in 2 fast days a week.

I decided to give the third plan a go after downloading the IF book onto my Kindle and so far have found it really easy. It's too early to say yet if I have lost anything, but like you I definitely feel slimmer, so we'll see!

Hello everyone, just back from my hols and whoops a couple of pounds has gone back on. I did have two half hearted fast days, went over by a couple of 100 each day! But I did have lots of lovely things on the other days, so maybe the damage is not so bad.

Fast day for me today -a proper one too!

  • I wasn't able to do my usual Monday fast as we were away for the weekend and I couldn't say no to the hotel breakfast today! While traveling home I picked up a few magazines to read for the journey, one of them being Glamour. It contained a rather worrying artical on IF and the questions around the effect on the female cycle and fertility. Anyone else read this or know anything about it? It wasn't particularly detailed and was more anecdotal i.e. quotes from the 5:2 FB page about longer cycles or periods stopping altogether. I'm just now a bit worried about this. I don't know if there's any real science to back it up but it just puts that seed in your mind!

Yes, hormones are most certainly affected by fasting. I think it's been said on more than one occasion that this type of eating regime is more suited to men.

Interestingly, I was reading a study earlier today which claims women have more success with fat loss, specifically those with metabolic syndrome, by increasing their calorific intake at breakfast and reducing calories at subsequent meals during the day.

Thanks for that, I'll have a read of the study at lunch time.

I think I'll do some more research into the hormone thing too. I don't want to do any permanent damage as OH and I want to start thinking about a family in the next couple of years. I've got less than half a stone to lose now but I was thinking IF was something I could do long-term to maintain...but maybe not!
