5:2 diet

Hi Gwen
That sounds like a good day's fast
According to Dr Mosley you should be aiming for about 500 calories on a fast day including all your drinks.
I fasted yesterday, it gets easier
I'm now at goal weight, maintaining by doing 6:1, and loving the compliments!
I find I'm thinking about food all day, but I know it is only for a day so it's OK.
I do still sleep badly though - mind you that's not helped by kittens bouncing on me at 5am!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Have you really lost a stone on this, rosyq?
Dinner was nice - wolfed it down, ha ha! Wouldn't bother with the babybel again - plasticy cheese didn't add anything. Would have less proper cheese or not bother at all next time. I'm planning to fast again on Friday so trying to plan what to do then. Could do the same thing again actually as have some of everything left.
As you said 500 calories and I'd been aiming for 400, I just had some strawberries and I don't feel hungry anymore. The headache is still vaguely lingering, but I'm drinking lots of water and off to bed soon for a non-fast day tomorrow! Yay!
GThough no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0 -
Yep, lost a stone since I started mid- June
Now down to 8.5 stone, comfortably a size 10, having to buy new clothes / alter existing ones!
Some people who haven't tried 5:2 reckon it can make you tired and irritable, but I haven't found that, I like having days when I don't have to eat if you see what I mean!
And I like having days like today when I can have a donut with no qualms, or have a pasty on the way home from a long walk, and feel no guilt
Sorry went on a bit thereThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Well I'm tired and irritable today and it hasn't been a fast! I'm fasting tomorrow and hoping I'm in a better mood, but it's more down to work than 5:2.
And I agree you rosy about enjoying a fast day. Its kind of liberating not having to think about what to eat all day; I just do one evening meal so only one thing to think about0 -
We survived another fast day yesterday. We had the chapata pizzas and they were delish. OH said I can make them on a non fast day too, just then he would like 2:D
Weighting this morning and OH lost another 4lb. I lost another 1lb, or just little over. It works out 3lb really over the 2 weeks. Not much, but it is definitely a fat I am loosing I think... I feel a lot flatter on my stomach.
Who ever said they feel hungry at night - try drinking fizzy water in the evening. I love fizzy water and I don't know whether it is the bubbles in my belly, but I don't feel very hungry at all then.0 -
I have been doing this since last Tuesday.
I lost around half a stone at the beginning of the year doing 5:2 and maintained doing 6:1 untl my holiday in July when I put on 4lbs in a fortnight! I have really struggled to get back to 5:2 as my life has been so hectic I just haven't been able to fit in 2 fast days a week.
I decided to give the third plan a go after downloading the IF book onto my Kindle and so far have found it really easy. It's too early to say yet if I have lost anything, but like you I definitely feel slimmer, so we'll see!
hello fellow 16:8
just wondered, are you actually missing out a meal a day on your plan? i am some days, but not others. i'm doubting myself now as everyone else i can find that is following 16:8, they all seem to be missing a meal every day. i thought it was eat as normal/to your appetite within the 8 hours?
i've started exercising again this week, aqua aerobics, so by 4pm i'm a bit peckish again after my porridge at 12pm (after exercise). i just had some olives & feta cheese yesterday then my main meal at about 7.30pm.
i'm really trying to resist the temptation of weighing myself before Saturday but my clothes are definitely feeling a lot looser...0 -
Please explain what you mean by 16:8.
After trying almost every diet known to science, I've come to the conclusion that the only thing which works for me is not having an evening dinner or even a substantial tea. DH and I always have a good breakfast and lunch, and over time I found I just did not want much else for the later part of the day. Lunch tends to be late-ish.
Watched a TV programme recently which focused on the 'group therapy' type of weight loss like WeightWatchers etc and the WW leader was emphasising to her class 'You have 21 meals in a week and every one needs to be planned'. I thought to myself 'Hang on - I don't have 21 meals in a week?' And thought: if it's assumed that we all need 3 meals every day, plus the 2 snacks that some diet plans like WW and SW assume, then no wonder losing weight is just so difficult.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Well I was doing well on the 5:2, and loosing, then dr. prescribed me a 3 month course of iron as it turned out I was quite badly anemic. Glad to be feeling a bit better already (was having dizzy spells, and falling asleep at 6pm). I have to take iron 3x a day and not sure how to work that it with 5:2 as there are so many things you can't eat or drink along with the iron (dairy & wheat products, tea and coffee) and I found it much easier to fast just going cold turkey all day, only drinking tea. Iron has a bad reputation of causing digestive disturbances and constipation so wondering how I can fast still. Perhaps I should try the 16:8 approach? Any advice welcome. No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0

I was prescribed iron about a month or so ago, it's made the world of difference to my energy levels, before starting I was having trouble just walking to the shops, now all gone.
Is it the Ferrus Sulfate you're on? I'm taking that, TBH I didn't take much notice of the leaflet, I'll have to dig it out
I'm supposed to take 3x a day but on fast days I only take 1 and I occasionally forget to take all 3 on eat days. But it has still worked for me, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's the constipation you need to watch, although that has sorted it self out eventually. If you prefer not to eat on fast days, how about just having a little skimmed milk or something, and taking your pill with that? Anyway, hope it helps you.0 -
If you're taking iron supplements then make sure you take vitamin C alongside, or have a glass of orange juice, to help with iron absorption.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
