Please explain what you mean by 16:8.

It's eat only during 8 hours a day.
I know this as a lifestyle choice though, not as a diet. The one I know is that you shouldn't eat anything after between 5-7pm, depending on what time you start in the morning.
To keep up a good figure and health through out life, even if you have desserts occassionaly and you go out occassionaly (so you eat later then that).
As a diet only... interested to hear if people loose anything?
  • well, 2lbs off for me this week! Very happy with that after a weekend away with lots of eating!

Honestly, this is the easiest 'diet' I've ever tried...and the extra health benefits are an added bonus! I actually feel really confident that I can reach my target before my holiday in 6 weeks. It'll be the first time in a good few years that I won't be ashamed of my holiday pics!

    hello fellow 16:8 :)

just wondered, are you actually missing out a meal a day on your plan? i am some days, but not others. i'm doubting myself now as everyone else i can find that is following 16:8, they all seem to be missing a meal every day. i thought it was eat as normal/to your appetite within the 8 hours?

i've started exercising again this week, aqua aerobics, so by 4pm i'm a bit peckish again after my porridge at 12pm (after exercise). i just had some olives & feta cheese yesterday then my main meal at about 7.30pm.

i'm really trying to resist the temptation of weighing myself before Saturday but my clothes are definitely feeling a lot looser...

Hi, I've been missing breakfast, eating a normal lunch at around 12.30-1.00pm with a small snack late afternoon followed by my main meal at around 8.00pm. Lost 1lb the first week, but gone a bit off piste these last couple of days as for some reason I've been starving in the morning so have had a late breakfast, followed by lunch and evening meal, so my eating window has been nearer 10hrs than 8, so will see what effect that has at next weeks weigh in!

Please explain what you mean by 16:8.

16 hours fast & 8 hours where you can eat, as mentioned in this book (it was free on kindle, it's now £1.99). very good info & details 3 different intermittant fasting plans, 16:8 is also called the Thirder plan.

there's also a facebook page for the book, looks like the author answers questions too as i've just read this info which pretty much answers my earlier query - " Thirder plan, where you eat normally, but within an 8 hour time slot. That could be between 1 and 9, or 2 and 10, or 12 and 8. Any 8 hour slot to suit you. And it's done every day, without specifically restricting your calories."

i'm finding quite easy to stick to as i struggle eating too early & we have our main meal quite late, 12pm-8pm fits really well with this. black coffee 1st thing, off to exercise, back for 12pm & 'feed me'!

i am hoping the scales will be favourable on Saturday, but i know that i already feel better in myself so i'm not going to get too hung up on the weekly numbers.

Sue - i wouldn't worry too much about a 10 hour eating time, i've seen info that suggests 14:10 might be more suitable for women anyway :)

What about drinking on this style of diet? Can you drink wine as long as it is within the 8 hrs slot?
(not that I drink it every day, but stopping drinking completely for a month might seem a bit far fetched!!). Also, can you drink squash etc when out of your eating hours? Or just water?
  • i'm drinking no added sugar squash, seems like gallons of it all day as i'm so thirsty at the moment! i think it's 6 calories per drink, so i'm sure that's ok. i think anything less than 10 calories, even during the fast time, was ok (but don't quote me on that).

alcohol - pretty sure the books says to avoid (espcially in the early stages of these plans) as it's not just the calories, it's how it affects the processes in the body, does it stop you burning fat? not sure, would have to check the book again.

i haven't had any alcohol for nearly 2 weeks & will really try to abstain for another 2 weeks as i want to lose 10-14lbs before the end of the month when we go away on holiday. i can't say that i've missed it yet, which is a bit of a surprise as i had got into the habit of wine on Fri & Sat nights.

Are you actually having bloods done to compare the before/after health protocol?

Not everyone benefits in the same way. This is what annoys me so much about this particular experiment which was conducted on ONE particular guy! There is no proof, especially for women, that it's actually beneficial at all. In fact, from the few limited follow up studies that have been done, it's actually had an adverse effect on health for women, particularly hormonal health.

I'm only partaking as an experiment to assess current claims. I can't advocate something to my clients unless I've tried it for myself, after all ;)

Trouble is, so many people, especially women, are beholden to that little dial on the weighing scales at the expense of all else. And that little dial is NOT a reliable indicator of health.

No, not had any bloods or anything done. I admit I probably do just believe what I've read and think it'll happen for me too!

The hormonal side is a bit of a worry, as I said the other day, but I've never had such an effective and easy diet method so I'm planning to stick it out til I get to my goal weight and then I'm going to try to maintain by sticking to a healthy diet and exercise and see how I get on.

    Hello,

second fast day here and it's going fine so far. Had 2 coffees with milk in the morning, an apple at lunch time and been drinking weak sugar free squash all day.

Going to have a couple of slices of thin crust margerhita for dinner with some home-grown tomatoes. Actually quite hungry and looking forward to it, rather than just eating because it is 'dinner time'.

    Hello all :)

I'm fasting today. Having some gammon and sweet potato fries. Delicious! :D

I took some cherry toms as usual to work with me but I noticed today I felt far hungrier than I have in a long time on a fast day. Hopefully just a one off though :)

Can't wait to step on the scales on Saturday morning. So close to that 140lbs now! :D
