hello
I've been reading this thread and following the lifestyle change for 6 weeks now, lost 9lbs.
just wanted to share my saviours for fast days....
Scottish slimmers venison sausages - 55 cals each
mini milk ice lollies - 30 cals each
mallow biscuit things - 50 cals each (come in a pack of 6 from supermarket for 50p)
I know the last 2 have probably zero nutritional value but they are sweet and good for after tea
just my tuppence worth0 -

But marshamallows and mini milk would make me smile more, and smiling releases endorphins, natural painkillers...therefore if fasting and hurting at all, fizzypotter's food choices are really health food0 -

marsh mallows are empty foods. They are just pure calories with no nutrients that your body needs. What rosy recommended was infinitely better as they are a source of vitamins and minerals and also fibre which ifills you up so helps if you are daft enough to fast (totally unnecessary if you eat correctly.)I like to give people as many choices as possible to do what I want them to. Whether fruit is better for you is debatable anyway as it is filled with fructose which we are told is just as damaging as glucose.
But the 5:2 diet is not a restrictive diet. There are no rules. We are talking about the diet Michael Mosley introduced us to on the Horizon programme and any talk of what's good for you and what is not is irrelevant here.
What is good for us doesn't need to be preached. If you are not dedicated to this diet then there is no point of posting on this thread, no one is going to take any notice. Only people who are practising this way of eating know the health benefits that are derived from it and anyone on the outside does not know what they are talking about.
I think that people posting on this thread against fasting probably work for the diet industry and do not like it because it actually works. Lets face it if everyone doing Weightwatchers tried this way of eating then Weightwatchers would go bust. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -

:rotfl::rotfl: Good point!Whether fruit is better for you is debatable anyway as it is filled with fructose which we are told is just as damaging as glucose. And fruit acids of course.

We are talking about the diet Michael Mosley introduced us to on the Horizon programme and any talk of what's good for you and what is not is irrelevant here. Personally if I'm only having 500 cals I'd like every one of them to do a bit of work for me but you're quite right, whatever works...

I mentioned fruit and veg because we're told they're "better for us". I know Michael said in his programme that we can eat what we like on feed days, but doesn't he also point out that on fast days it's good to eat as low-GI as possible to avoid post-sugar lows? I find eggs and carrots very sustaining, and it's surprising how a cherry tomato will just take the edge off hunger pang, so for me that's helpful. However if others find other ways work for them, that's fine too. None of us are the same.
