5:2 diet
Comments

Yes but I don't eat again until the breakfast the following day. If you say eat 500 calls until 19.30 they might think they can have a sandwich for example at 9pm if hungry, or am I being picky here!0
-
No your not being picky.... this is the basic rule of 5:2 isn't. I thought you had to wait until next morning, making it 36 hours!
Please tell me if I am misunderstanding this.0 -
I think it's personal preference of 24 vs 36 hours. I use 36 hours as it's a little easier to manage i.e 500/600 calories from waking to going to bed. Whereas 24 hours would enable me to eat an extra meal just outside the hours i.e early evening meal one day, late evening meal the next.
However, if you struggle with 36 hours then 24 is better than nothing!0 -
The true sense of the word 'fast' means to not eat at all. This is why people get so confused because you're not actually fasting if you're eating food.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

I go by the 36hr myself, here's something I read online:
There seems to be a lot of confusion on the FB pages about what a fast is, particularly as there are so many variations floating around now, and some confusion has arisen from Mosley's book and the 24 hour thing. This is muddling the people new to 5:2, so I will try to explain here in simple terms exactly what it is.
Anything other than the way described in this first post is not a full 5:2 Fast. I will discuss a couple of other concepts in later posts.
The best thing to do is read Kate's book. In fact, I think that is a must if pewople are then going to advise other people on how to do it.
1. You can choose any 2 days of the week to do your fasts.
2. It does not have to be consecutive days or the same days each week.
3. Forget times of meals - they are causing confusion.
4. Forget "24 hours" and think of a "day", ie the period between two sleeps.
5. Remember that we normally fast overnight as we sleep anyway, from the evening before untill the first meal of the next day. That's why that meal is called "breakfast" - break fast.
So, forget (for the moment) any other variation on a theme of fasting you have read about/been told about, if you want to do a 5:2 Fast this is how to do it:-
A. Have your last meal the day before fast day, as usual. (It doesn't matter what time or what you eat.)
B. Have a night's sleep
C. Wake up - it's Fast Day.
D. Today, Fast Day, you can eat and drink a maximum of 500/600 kcals today. You can either have the food in one big meal or several smaller meals scattered through the day. It doesn't matter which, any merits of either way are theoretical and not proven. If you have sugar and/or milk in tea and coffee, they must come out of your allowances.
E. Go to bed. Do not break your fast one minute after Midnight. Have a full night's sleep.
F. Wake up, it's "Feast Day". Well done on achieving a fast. Today you can eat what you want to eat.

Not official, just another forum but its how I work it
I know I'm a newbie to this, but having watched Michael's program and read his book I think this is correct
I'm on my 1st fast day today as have an unexpected day 'home alone'
Had a boiled egg for breakfast, cups of tea & ginger tea to keep me going and I'll have a stir fry for dinner, about 6pm if I can hold off that long. Then just tea again until tomorrow breakfast which I'm already planning!
So far so good but I do realise it's early days

Well I've finished my first fasting day, it was ok tho I was thinking about food all day :rotfl:
I had to have a drink of milk at about 3am today as I woke feeling very ill but it only took me up to 510 cals so I don't feel too bad about that but I think I'll need to do that regularly. Not at 3am tho!
I've just had breakfast of a pitta wth ham and loads of salad it was lovely but I feel too full nowThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
