Then have a yogurt and finish with a cappuccino about 9pm and another yogurt if I can squeeze the calories in. Weight watchers are really low, so I have them. Yum yum.
They may be low in fat/calories but are extremely high in sugar which is the one thing you need to avoid. As are all WW products, should be avoided with a barge pole!Try Total Greek yoghurt instead. The original one, not the 0% fat one.
Calories are irrelevant if you're eating the wrong type of foods“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I heard that muscle weighs more than fat and I'm sure that's true for really fit sports people but I'm pretty sure I'm still more lard than muscle.
Then someone posted on this thread that when you first start a weight lifting programme your body retains water to help repair the muscles. I'd never heard that before but it made sense.
Anyway my clothes still felt ridiculously (almost obscenely) loose so I persevered.
Muscle weighs exactly the same as fat, pound for pound
It's the density that differs. Muscle takes less space hence why it's more important to take body measurements rather than weighing yourself. You've already commented on how yourr clothes are much looser
The water thing is totally rubbish. You only retain water if you're not hydrated hence why it's important to drink 2-3 litres of water a day. It will help reduce water retention.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Hi all
I've been lurking about for a couple of weeks, and am finding you all rather inspirational! It's great to hear how people are honestly getting on with something.
I've decided to dive in and give it a go. Mostly because I am very bad at sustaining any kind of diet effort, I can do anything for a day though so it should be easier.
I started yesterday, but only decided late morning. And was then sidetracked at dinner by a revolting tasting stir fry, which led inevitably to toast instead. Not ideal, but some lessons learned
Next week I'm going to plan a menu out properly, and do Tues/Thurs - so will take next weekend as end of first week.
Will be digging out the hairy dieters book tonight to find some ideas.

Thanks, and b@@ger! I love them, I rarely have weight watchers except their yogurts, but you are right, when I input into myfitness I can see the sugar, but that is the only sweet I eat, no chocks cakes or biscuits through the week but thosebut I will swap, I thought it would be ok,(they are nice) sounds like I have to detox! Haha.

Just had a thought about the yogurts, when I input into my fitness on a normal eating day, I am well within the daily recommended amounts including sugar, is it best to cut sugar out COMPLETELY if you can? It is hard to know what is right when trying to have a balanced diet. Thanks.0

I'm of the opinion "everything in moderation" so if your diet is otherwise relitively sugar free then by all means conitinue to enjoy your guilty secret
The only reason I mentioned it is because many people eat WW food in the belief it's healthy when really it's not. Almost all low-fat products are higher in sugar and sugar is far more harmful than most fats in our diet.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Oh well who knows why I plauteued , the message I hoped to get across was don't give up.
While we're rubbishing theories I don't agree with "must drink x amounts of water" Wasn't that an Evian market campaign? It totally disregards that water comes in many forms, fruit and vegetables for instance.
Its very easy to tell if you're getting enough water, Go to loo. If your urine isn't crystal clear you need to drink more water. Whether this is one glass or two litres your body will tell you.0 -

Why should you not choose the 0% one? I can only see 0.2% less naturally occurring lactose sugar in the 10% one, but almost twice the calories.0 -
Well no loss for me this week but I'm ok with that. I've decided to stop obsessing over my weight. I won't reach my goal before my hols (3 weeks tomorrow) but I've lost another 1/2 an inch from the waist/hips which I'm much more bothered about. I know the weight will go with time so it's just a matter of being more patient.
Also, I've just been shopping for new clothes ready for Paris and I got a pair of jeans that, quite frankly, look rather fabulous on. And clothes shopping always makes me happy nowSo I can't be too downbeat.
Hope everyone has a brilliant weekend and gets lots and lots of sun0 -

I just have a thing about always choosing full fat products as they're usually the healthier option. I also never count calories. If you're eating a healthy, clean, balanced diet then you won't stray too far from what you need.
It's all about listening to your body and working out what's best for you, although I appreciate not everyone can do this, hence needing advice and guiding in the right direction. And the advice can be extremely confusing and contradictory. I was watching that programme the other night - Fat Family Tree(?) - and was horrified at the advice being given, especially from a GP, although it resembled typical NHS guidelines which are so far outdated now and completely wrong. It gave out all the wrong messages. No wonder obesity rates are increasing.
There is no such thing as a "fat gene", it's all hormone driven and obesity interferes greatly with how those hormones work. As nutritionists, all we can do is keep plugging away at correcting the bad advice and hope the message eventually gets through.
There are some dietitians, consultants and GP's I know who are taking on board recent research models and contemporary ideals but I fear it will be a long time before the NHS adopts them, if ever. After all it is largely driven by the Food Industry and Pharmaceutical companies which have a vested interest in maintaining a poor diet amongst the population“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
