5:2 diet

I know things plateau. I know if you lose weight as slowly as I do then a bit of a blip in non-diet day eating (OK, a blowout 3 days with friends the weekend before last) might have what could be termed an adverse result.
It could be anything; many women put in weight before a period, it could be what you ate the day before (if I eat a curry with rice in the evening, I'm always 2 lbs heavier the next day:eek:)....
You're not on this diet for the short term, so ignore blips!
They'll even out in the end.schoolrunmum wrote: »Just started this diet today, skipped breakfast as was busy pottering about. Hi,
I've been following this diet for a couple of months and have shed about 7lbs, which I'm really happy about, but I've not lost any more (weight or inches) for the last 3 weeks.
I think my trouble is that I'm struggling to eat normally on the days I can eat. I do plan my meals, but then add too many snacks. I think I'm probably eating about 2500 calories or sometimes even more! I had a 'normal' day yesterday and had all my meals planned in advance, but still went overboard with the snacks. I could not stop thinking about food, even when I was still full from the previous meal.
I can stick to the fast days ok (well, it takes some willpower in the evenings, but I hang in there), why can't I do it on the normal days?
So, does anyone have any advice for me?
Edited to add- I'm alternating my weeks by doing 5:2 one week and then 4:3 the next as it fits more easily with my work pattern.0 -

Hi ... I feel your pain, I go through phases when all I want to do is eat, but it does pass and I haven't had a day like that for quite a while. I have to calorie count on my non-fast days - it used to be because I ate too much ... now it's to make sure i stick to around 2000 (unless i know i have a big meal out etc).
Just try to remind yourself that on a fast day you can go the whole day with only 500 cals, so on a eating day you can easily wait until your next calorie filled meal and don't need that snack!
Good luck!!!0 -
Morning all!!
I'm very happy to announce my 2.2lb loss this weekAnd I am now in the next stone bracket woooohooo :T:T (only just but still lol).
For all those that are plateauing - keep at it, it does work (and someone please remind me of this when I next plateau!!).
I have a friend round for lunch today - I've bought her a pizza, but i'm having my own home made pizza (a difference of around 700 cals!!) which means i have enough cals left for some lovely garlicky dough balls - and still enough for dinner. I love this diet!!

I don't use this thread much, but could do with a kick today.
Yesterday was a fast day, and fine. Today I struggled to motivate to eat breakfast. (In the end I ate some cold chicken, not terribly traditional) and a probiotic yoghurt.
Does anyone else find non fast days more difficult? I know I needed to break the fast this morning to keep metabolism up and to stay healthy (in all senses).0 -
Hi everyone,
Hope I can join in?
I was doing a lite version of this, 16:8 (where I could eat whatever I wanted but only within an 8 hour time period each day). I slowly but surely lost weight. But it was soooooo ridiculously easy that I actually started to forget those very simple rules, and started eating whatever I wanted all the time. I regained the weight, but didn't exceed my original starting weight at least.
I think the 5:2 will keep me vigilant as there will be two days where I need to pay proper attention to what I eat. I have chosen Tuesday and Thursday as my two days and so my first one is going to be tomorrow. I'm working out my menu today. As it's my first one, i'm thinking the safest best is to spread the calories out into three meals, 150, 150, 200.
I have enjoyed reading this thread, has been very helpful.Debt free (finally) and saving a deposit for my first home.0 -

Is it your fast day today? If so could you share your recipe for home-made pizza?

Hello all. Not been on here for a while. I found the second week of the Easter holiday very difficult and as a consequence, I think I missed 3 or 4 fast days. I started up again on Thursday last week and have everyone at work quizzing me again! Monday night, everyone had me measuring them so that they could get started.
I put on 6lbs whilst not fasting but I confess I was eating my body weight in Thorntons chocolates. I think it will go quickly again though as it went quickly the first time.
DH is doing amazingly well. He has gone down to 13st so lost 2 stone and he has lost 3" around his waist. It's also obvious that he has lost weight from his face, arms, legs and chest so it's not all going from his belly. I think his weight will stop dropping when he gets to about 12 st 7 lbs as he's 6'4". We'll see though won't we.
Good luck to those fasting today, I shall be fasting tomorrow. I'm on cub camp at the weekend so will most definitely NOT be fasting! Hiyas all xx well done on the fab losses this week, i'm another who finds actual fast days easier than feed days, ive realised I have to change my whole way of eating as eating snacks and crappy food is what got me so overweight in the first place so now count daily on MFP even on non-fast days, fast day for me tomorrow and looking forward to a day off planning for hours what to eat, really appreciate the break twice a week..#170 Pay off debts by xmas 2013 £1484 B/card-Done. What I would suggest is try to do a few things you may do on a Fast Day. Such as:
1. Eat lots of Veg and some fruit. I sprinkle my fruit with cinnamon as it slows sown the rate at which sugars are released
2. Eat some soup - that will fill you up.
3 If you can, do some vigorous exercise - it will raise your metabolism and it will help suppress the appetite.
4 Have grapefruit for breakfast - it too will suppress the appetite and help burn the fat
Also
1. Beware of alcohol - if you must have some then make it as late in the day as you can. Most of my binge days are when I've had lots to drink.
2. Only allow yourself chocolate (or some other reward) if you've reached a new low weight the day before - and then just a few squares(or equivalent)
3. Make sure you're getting enough fat. This will leave you feeling satisfied and less likely to binge. Avocado's are excellent as are nuts/seeds (not too many though). I usually have both on a non fast day. For the nuts/seeds I have 2 brazils, 5 almonds, 3 walnuts, a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds and a tablespoon of some delicious roasted sunflower seeds (roasted with olive oil and sprinkled with a tiny bit of salt).
4. Keep your intake of high carb items low as this may encourage binging. I tend to have more sweet potatoes instead of potatoes these days and they are quite versatile.
5 Don't have too many "bad" foods in the house - that way you're less likely to eat them.
6 Drink plenty of water - you'll eat less
7 Keep yourself busy. You're less likely to think about food if you're concentrating on something else.
Good Luck.:)0
