My second fast day of the week today.

I had a massive overeating feed day again yesterday - i still can't get a grip on my portion control during eating days. I need to drop this idea of ''eat as much as you like'' because that is not how it works!! I find that once i start eating i don't want to stop! Trying not to beat myself up about it and will just attempt to restrict a bit more on the rest of my feed days (if i see these as calorie controlled days i think i'm less likely to binge!)

Anyway, fast day today has been quite hard going. I've had a very active day but have managed to stick to my 500 cals, i had a 23 cal miso soup at around 12, some cherry tomatoes with crispbreads (160) and grapes (55) at around 2.30, which left me around 250 to have my dinner tonight - i had a small portion of leftovers from yesterday baked chicken, quinoa, puy lentils and various other veggies. I still haven't done my insanity workout today and am absolutely dreading as it's one hour of Max Plyometrics (pain!!) but i'm going to force myself through it and if i'm really hungry afterwards i'll let myself have a miso soup even if it does push me slightly over!

Trying not to see tomorrow as a feed day, rather a ''eat a bit more'' day! Well done to all who are fasting today - it's nearly bed time! Hoorah!!

I've fasted today. Orange for brekkie (or more like lunch by the time I get it since I'm up at 5 and have break at work at 11), Chicken soup for lunch and then I was going to cook dinner but couldn't be bothered after the gym so went to M&S and bought a Count On Us Chow Mein that came in at 285cals. Had room for a Mint Options hot choc too.

I think I will have another fast on Friday, too, though I'm at home for most of the day so whether I make it or not remains to be seen. Particularly since it's Easter and Mum and I are baking!

Thanks grannyjo for information about tomatoes. I use them quite a lot for sauces, tasty and low calorie what's not to love! We had a tomato based ssauce last night and I was definitely a bit 'prickly' last night.

Wine of the world - I cant drink icey cold water, even when it's hot (can you remember that?) I am a very cold person and that just makes me freeze. In the past I bought a water filter but if you don't keep it in the fridge it goes green. Might try again and put the water in the kettle to warm it up before drinking. At the moment I'm drinking very dilute R*b*na. I always drink a lot - 1.5/2.5litres a day is normal for me. I don't like squash or fizzy/coke type drinks and green tea seemed ideal. Will be getting some fennel tea bags today to give them a try.

Thanks everyone for all support and help. It makes a big difference to know you are all there.

I've decided I'm not fasting this week. I'm in full on flu/cold mode and the thought of a fast day is furthest from my mind when I'm feeling sorry for myself. I'm telling myself I didn't put the weight on overnight so it'll take a while for it to come off too. So this week I've decided to eat normally and maybe have a few low calorie ish days rather than fasting days if I can manage it but if not there's always next week.

oaprut - I have problems with water being too cold from the tap - so I have started drinking plain boiled water. I find it easier to drink than a glass of cold water, if that makes sense.

    Hello all,

I have decided to start this diet today and I'm on a fast day

I've counted calories before so I think I know how to handle it. I was just wondering, does anyone use diet coke or any of the "zero" brands to help with the hunger?

I see a lot of people on here drink tea or coffee and I'm not a big hot drink drinker.

Any way, I'm excited to start seeing results. I'm doing measurements rather than weight so hopefully I start losing :j

The only hot drink I have it hot chocolate, so that's no good! I used to drink a lot of diet coke/pepsi but realised that when I was going through probably 5 cans a day at work, then a couple pints at home in the evening that I was probably addicted! The kick for me was when a temp jokingly said "you drink a lot of that don't you, I can hear you opening them from across the office" and he'd only been here a week lol.

So I switched to sparkling fruity water (4x 1l bottles for £1.50 in Sains). I still get the sparkle and fizz but a lot healthier. I still have coke in the evening though. Interestingly when I'm on a fast day (day 4 today) I find I crave non-fizzy drinks. I think the thought of bubbles in an empty stomach puts me off, so I drink Robinsons fruit and barley squash instead.

None of those things you are drinking are what I would describe as heallthy to be honest.

    I agree.
Also, don't forget to add the calories from the squash as they can add up to quite a lot.
Why not try plain bubble water with a squeeze of lemon juice?

I have been drinking several cups of green tea over the past few months. I have also started really itching; I can cope during the day but at night, when I'm asleep, I scratch so much I bleed. I have been trying to work out what was causing this. The other day I had a green tea and immediately started itching. So I have stopped drinking it and my skin has settled down.
Has anyone else had this type of reaction? I am very disappointed about this as I really enjoy drinking green tea. I love coffee but restrict this to 4 cups a day, our water has a horrible taste so can't drink it 'neat'. Am thinking of trying fennel tea. Will buy some tomorrow to see how I get on.

I'm prone to skin itching . I 67 and no problems until about 60- then I found strawberries and rasberries set me off scratching at night. I'm careful how many I eat now and things got better- but starting the 5-2 diet about 5 weeks ago, I was eating a lot of tomatoes and they set me off scratching until I bled. I've
cut them down and things have improved. Its really annoying when you find a low calorie food you can eat a lot of- to find your system objects.

I'm 63, and until early December last year, could eat anything.

I then fell into the the black hole of 'histamine intolerance'!!!

    An eg. ....

    http://chriskresser.com/headaches-hives-and-heartburn-could-histamine-be-the-cause

My food choices are now so limited as to what will or won't cause hive-like( itchy, bleeding skin) or swollen (agiodema) fingers, toe and face reactions...it's an utter nightmare

I've seen 3 docs at my local surgery, none of whom had even heard or knew anything about this!!!

I have reasearched tons on the net, and apparently it's becoming a more frequent occurance in older people who have never experienced any food allergies/intollerances in their lives...

    http://whatallergy.com/2013-02/late-onset-allergies-dermatitis-and-asthma-in-the-elderly

Until this happened to me, I never realised or knew that food contains histamines....which our bodies need for various reasons,....and when you ingest to much, and your body stops breaking the excess down, your body may then react with hives, angiodema, and other nasty things!

Maybe check it out and see if either of you have reactions that fit the HI profile, and then you'll be able to get a handle on how to cope with it....fingers crossed you don't.

Thank you for posting the recipe - it looks delicious and i think i'm going to give it a go next week for my monday fast day :)

I'm on a ''fuel'' day today (i've mentally renamed these as have been VERY naughty recently!) So far have really enjoyed it.

I experimented with ''protein pancakes'' this morning - my other half and i put out various fruit toppings with some cinnamon, honey and/or lemon juice and i whipped up some healthy pancakes. The recipe i used was 3 egg whites, one egg, 1/2 cup oats, two tbl spoons protein, some stevia and a little soy milk all whisked in together and then in a pan with some low cal spray. Very tasty particularly with banana and cinnamon!

So i've had one of those, and a ''green'' smoothie (wanted to use the leftover bananas).

I've also just had a slice of yummy cake which my lovely neighbour made for me using fruit instead of sugar and fried yoghurt on top?! Tasted absolutely delicious anyway and insanely moist!

Not going to worry too much about cals today as am planning a half fast tomorrow (probably around 1000), i'll try to get to the evening on 500 and then allow myself friday night wine!
