I rarely take any of them, but there's nothing wrong with one or two cans really, If you are drinking a couple of 2 litre bottles you are getting into high doses of artificial sweeteners which may interfere with your metabolism and appetite, and lessen the good effects of the diet.

Feeling very happy today, big smile :) Weight 10st 12lb. This means I have lost 2st 7lb! This works out at about .5lb per week; doesn't sound much but I'm 2 dress sizes smaller.

Amazing considering during this time we have had several holidays, been out for meals and had friends round. Food is very important to me, I love cooking it and especially eating it!

I am not very active as I have arthritis. I also have an under active thyroid so normally I only have to think about chocolate/cake/biscuits and the weight goes on.

So please, everyone that's feeling discouraged as the weight loss isn't as fast as they hoped, please keep going. If I can do it, you can too. The joy you will feel when you start buying smaller clothes, or eating that piece of cake. curry or chips and know you wont put on weight is indescribable.

    good luck all

Well with sticking to 2000 cals during non fast days (making it 20% down on my weekly TDEE) ... doing a Spinning class, 30 min cardio workout and a kettlercise class .... I put on 1.2lbs!!! I could cry :(
    It's really nothing!!!!
Weight fluctuates naturally and in the scheme of things, 1.2 lbs is really nothing.
I know it doesn't feel that way when you are on a mission, but forget about it and think about how much better you feel, and yes, it's quite likely you have put on muscle too if you weren't used to that level of activity.

I've been going to more fitness classes too and it really gives me a buzz; don't know if it's the diet or the exercise, but most of my clothes are loose at the waist when they fit around my legs!

We had friends over on saturday that I had not seen for months and they were obviously very impressed and asked loads of questions about it; they're both doctors, and I think he was considering giving it a go (the wife has always been tiny).

    So keep it up elletee.

On a fast day today and popped in M&S intending to get a "count on us" ready meal for tea. OH sometimes does fast days with me, but today had said he wanted something substantial as he will be working outside tomorrow. So I stopped by the takeaway meals offer, and out of curiosity thought I'd check the calories in the King Prawn Bhuna. 130 per half pack. So tonight I am now having a meal for 2 and only 260 calories! OH will have Lamb Rogan Josh and pilau rice. I will have some tinned potatoes with mine. Just had a slim a soup and crispbreads for lunch and really looking forward to tea!

I have been drinking several cups of green tea over the past few months. I have also started really itching; I can cope during the day but at night, when I'm asleep, I scratch so much I bleed. I have been trying to work out what was causing this. The other day I had a green tea and immediately started itching. So I have stopped drinking it and my skin has settled down.
Has anyone else had this type of reaction? I am very disappointed about this as I really enjoy drinking green tea. I love coffee but restrict this to 4 cups a day, our water has a horrible taste so can't drink it 'neat'. Am thinking of trying fennel tea. Will buy some tomorrow to see how I get on.

Has anyone else taken it to 4:3? Just wondered how they find it?

I have been doing 4:3 since the Horizon programme aired, except for several 2-week breaks for holidays and Christmas. That's because I had a lot of fat to lose! About 40kg /6.5 st just to get to the normal BMI. At first, I wanted to try alternate day fasting, but then realised it would be too complicated to plan/shop/cook.

This way, we fast Mon/Wed/Fri, and I find myself enjoying the free time! We just have lunch (mine is quite late, more of a tea) on fast days, so we sleep in 3 times a week (I have set the alarm to go off an hour later than usual on those days). We've also found that we are more energetic ;) in the evenings as we're not feeling full or suffering from indigestion! As my partner takes lunch to work, Thursdays can be tricky as we may have finished the Tue leftovers, so that's something that needs to be factored into meal planning (we're on Paleo of sorts, so no sarnies!). I work part-time, so it's easy to make a huge salad and griddle a piece of fish or something when I come home.

By now, I'm roughly half way there. I've lost over 3 st (and am very happy to report that we managed not to put on weight in Florida, despite Key Lime pies and exotic Haagen-Dazs flavours!). My partner has lost over 2 stone, and is now at his ideal weight - he's recently had a checkup at our new GP and his blood pressure is excellent. He's really only fasting 2 days now, as he gets a pub dinner on Mondays, and even then it's more around 650-1000 kcals per day as he really doesn't need to lose more weight.

So that's about it - at some point we will change to 5:2, and after I'm at my ideal weight, 6:1. Just realised it means more shopping/cooking /cleaning :( and I even like to cook! Just not all the time...
    Cogito, ergo sum.

I'm prone to skin itching . I 67 and no problems until about 60- then I found strawberries and rasberries set me off scratching at night. I'm careful how many I eat now and things got better- but starting the 5-2 diet about 5 weeks ago, I was eating a lot of tomatoes and they set me off scratching until I bled. I've
cut them down and things have improved. Its really annoying when you find a low calorie food you can eat a lot of- to find your system objects.
On the 5-2 I've lost about 10 lbs in 6 weeks-was 10st 10ib - lost 7-8 lb very quickly , prob because it was a holiday weight gain. i seemed to reach a standstill at 10st 2 lbs which has been my minimum weight for about 10 years. I even seemed to go up a LB - but joy. It has now started slowly downward again. My last fast day got me to 9st 13and a half lbs which I had not seen since I was about 45. Iwant to carry on to about 9st 7lbs if I can. The delight of this diet is that I can resist temtation for a day knowing I can indulge tomorrow.- good luck to everyone
  • My first fast day today - eeks its hard . . especially because there is an open, half bar of chocolate in the fridge which would be so easy to eat.

It's funny how the hunger comes / goes in waves and doesnt just build - like Mosley said in his programme.

I have eaten an apple today, and tea. I have a ready meal in the fridge as I thought I may be too tempted to nibble stuff when cooking. I've enough left to have a hot choc too, and some extra veg to bulk up the ready meal.

Oaprut - does your water still taste bad when chilled in the fridge or with ice cubes- I've lived somewhere with horrid water so can sympathise. I used to buy huge 5l boxes of water from the supermarket and have that instead.

Good luck to all those fasting today!

I've counted calories before so I think I know how to handle it. I was just wondering, does anyone use diet coke or any of the "zero" brands to help with the hunger?
I'm not that into hot drinks (although I've managed to force myself to get a taste for green tea after a long time trying), so I have a couple of diet Cokes during the day.
