Hi I sometimes do 2 fast days together I find it easier. I have lost weight -only a small amount each week but it's staying off so I'm happy. I think it's what works for you or fits in wth your week.

My understanding is that two fast days in a row isn't a good idea because your body can kick into "fast mode", which means that your metabolism changes to use the food your body is getting more effectively, and so you don't lose weight.
That is incorrect. You want to induce the fast mode and that is exactly what the 5:2 diet does; the longr the fast, the more pronounced the metabolic changes. What you don't want is to reduce your calorie intake over extended periods of time (but above the threshold that kicks the fast mode)like in a conventional long term low cal diet because then your body adjusts and uses energy more efficiently.

Also you're more likely to stick to a day's very restricted food if you know you can eat more or less what you want the next day. If you know that the next day will also be a fast day, you're more likely to say "oh f*** it" when tempted ....
I think that here lies the real difficulty of fasting 2 days in a row.

    Morning all!

Well going to the gym on a fast day yesterday seemed no different to me - still hard (i am so unfit lol) According to the hi-tech stuffs i burned about 250 cals ... so a net of 250 for the day - go me!

I think I'm getting a bit obsessed with counting the calories on non fast days - so I'm letting it go and just going to make good choices (she says as a friend just invites her out to a curry tomorrow night!) it feels like a weight (no pun intended) off my mind. After all it's what this diet is supposed to be about!!

Good luck to all fasters today, happy eating to all non fasters and happy Friday to all! :)

(so glad I'm eating today - I work in a BBC building so there are Red Nose goodies all over the place lol)

FD Yesterday & got on scales this morning - I'm 149.8lb. Next FD will be on Monday. I know I will creep back up a little but the rush it gave me this morning to get below 150lb was brilliant!
I know my target was 147lb but I think I may drop it to 145lb 'cos I've still got some flabby bits round my middle :)
Hope everyone has a good weekend

  • Morning all!

Third ever fast day for me today - managed to get my exercise in this morning and I was SO energetic! Couldn't believe it. I allowed myself to have a ''light'' graze snack (80 calories) straight after the work out and i'm having a black coffee now - seems to have done the trick fending off the mid morning munchies, hopefully that will be me till lunch now!

I got some of the 8 calorie ''slim'' noodles from the shop yesterday so going to try them out this evening with some stir fry veg and low cal sauce which should leave me enough for a WW noodle soup for lunch!

I went out for dinner last night with the boyfriend and had enjoyed a few very naughty cocktails and spring rolls which i definitely wouldn't have allowed myself off the menu before. I LOVE THIS WAY OF EATING (and i'm even saying that on a fast day!)

Really need to control my grumpiness on FD :(apart from that my FD are going fine, even did cheese on toast for my DW and had to resist snaffling any of the cheese :D
Have also got to move my weigh in to the morning as bit of a pain waiting till 2pm, will weigh both times next Friday just for the changeover .
Following horizon 5-2 started 28/01/13 target where I am now ish :)
Maintaining now as DW doesn't want my legs to get any skinnier :D
    Total Loss=41.6lb
