I would never catergorize the 5:2 diet as yo yo dieting. I am only into my 7th week, but this has been the easiest, least depriving, plan I have ever followed and I've followed a few:o

I believe if the diet is followed correctly, it will be easy to follow long term which immediately knocks the yo yo label on the head. For some people 'fasting' for a short period is a normal part of their life.

I think it would be helpful if critics of the 5:2 researched the subject more thoroughly before making snap judgements and 1940sGal, perhaps you could explain to your colleague that far from 'starving' yourself, you are able to eat guilt free on non-fast days and on fast days you may feel a little hungry but you are certainly not starving;).

After all my 'naughtiness':D over the weekend, which involved various treats of one sort or another -particularly Mother's Day, I am now back on the straight and narrow with my first fast day of the week (my 13th). It really does seem to get easier and I haven't really felt hungry at all today. Yes, I have fancied a few things particularly because I torture myself by baking bread and cakes:rotfl:but I can hold off until tomorrow when I can have some.

Today I have had a Pineapple Smoothie for breakfast 170 Calories, lots of herbal tea, HM Vegetable Curry for dinner tonight, followed by a slice of melon 290 Calories, and I have 40 calories left for a drink before bedtime:D

Well done everyone!:T Onwards and downwards!

At last after putting on 1lb last week and staying the same the week before I've lost 4lb this week ....YAY!!!! so that makes it 8lbs lost in 5 weeks ..very pleased with that.

Moral of this story is, don't give up if you don't loose it will come off eventually xx

That's what I love about it. Last week I saw a box of mini-animal biscuits (you know the little choccie covered kids ones) in the shop reduced to 50p. So I bought it and slowly munched my way through the lot that night. And i still lost 2lb after! That felt magic I can tell you! :D

All the while she's munching away on a salmon salad day in day out. I'll stick with my diet thanks! :D:D

I made a version of this tonight. Didn't use all the same ingredients but most of them. Was uber delish too :)

I think someone here posted this the other day. I definitely want to try this one. Looks lovely!

Well done on completing your first week - it does get easier honest !:)

Love the sound of sweet potato based noodles!! Off to google them now! :) (But how did Falafel mix end up in a Chinese supermarket? lol)

    Good luck

Falafel mix ended up working surprisingly well - i think i may have overdone it on the water to falafel ration but dipped in a bit of sweet chilli sauce it was delicious and relatively healthy! Let me know how you get on with the sweet potato noodles - the texture of them was a bit odd i thought (slimier than normal noodles!) but certainly edible, especially with some fried up leafy green veg to add some crunch!

I had a feast day today and MAN have i enjoyed it - perhaps a bit too much! I definitely ate more than i would normally (as i'm generally quite well behaved with my eating on a non 5:2 plan!) but i'm sure the novelty of being able to eat whatever i feel like will wear off eventually! I had loads of muesli with a teaspoon of honey + cinnamon AND wholemeal toast for breakfast, some falafels with dipping sauce for lunch and fajiitas followed by two squares of 74% chocolate for dinner and i feel completely stuffed! I also went for a 4 mile run round about lunchtime to get some fresh air and stretch the legs. I'm almost looking forward to the next fast day now as feel like i need to clean out my body after all of that eating today!

Thanks for the recipes everyone - i can't believe all of that food (which looks really tasty and wholesome!) can be so few calories! I think it might be time to treat myself to something other than soup for fast days!

Hello :). I'm surviving (just :o). Am just stuffing my massive box of salad down my neck. Once that's gone, I have a satsuma left to last me through the night. Hey ho. Only 8 hours until I can go to bed!

  • I haven't yet full read up on this diet (but I will after posting this seeing as I am wide awake at this time and have given up on assignment writing).

But a few questions come to mind, so I may aswell through them out there.

You say on your non-fasting days you can eat guilt free.. but do you still calorie count? I am guessing you can't stuff yourself full of cakes and junk food for 5 days out of the week and still be healthy and lose weight from fasting for 2. So I am curious to know what you do on those 5 days out of the 7?

Also... I struggle with coping with the feelings of hunger. It drives me crazy. Do you have any tips to combat this on hunger days?
Is it better to have say... 8 small 50 calorie snacks throughout the day?

Hello there. The idea is to eat guilt free but no more than 25% above your GDA. I don't calorie count but if you have been massively overeating, it can be a useful tool to see just where you are going wrong.
You'll find your own way of combatting hunger. The thought that it's only for one day helps.
I've caved and had a nice biscuit and a tuna sandwich :o!
