  • So a complete fail on my second attempted fast yesterday! Did my hour of insanity workout in the morning, managed to keep away from food until about 4pm by which point i gave in completely, ate loads and then, promising myself that i would fast today instead went out + drank lots of vodka diet cokes! Abject failure HOWEVER

Today i have managed the delayed second fast! I've had a really busy day so didn't really miss munching until now. I had big can of lentil soup (210 cals) with ryvitta (60 cals) at around half four and then around an hour ago i had a slice of toast with low fat spread (140ish?!) and medium sized apple (how much is an apple? 80?!). Drinking a green tea to warm me up a bit now. Feeling very proud of myself completing my first week of 5:2!

I also took a trip to the local chinese supermarket for the first time last week and LOVED it! It looks tiny from outside but inside it's huge and there is SUCH a choice of unusual and healthy(ish) food. I'm not a great cook but i bought myself some sweet potato based noodles, falafel mix, sugar free peanut butter and a few other bits to try on my non fast days!

Elizabunny thank you for the break down of how you are achieving those excellent results! I hope to follow your example!

Well done on completing your first week - it does get easier honest !:)

Love the sound of sweet potato based noodles!! Off to google them now! :) (But how did Falafel mix end up in a Chinese supermarket? lol)

    Good luck

If you put your figures in here you will get a guide on how many calories you should be eating on your non fast days...

Thank you for that helpful link. To maintain my weight I should eat 1925 calories and for weight loss I should eat 1624. I think I'll be comfortable with around 1500 to 1600 cals on my non fast days.

You have just said to lose weight you should eat 1624 but this is based on 7 days per week. With 5:2 you need to look at your calories over the whole of the week which based on 7 days is 11,368 per week to lose weight. You are proposing between 8500/9000 per week which will make you feel deprived and also could stall your weight loss as too low.

    Hi guys

I have been thinking about this way of life for sometime now and today after getting up and fighting to put my jeans on I thought I'd finally take the plunge!

I haven't eaten yet I'm trying to have a look to see what the best options for me will be before I have brekkie.

I'm not bothered so much about my weight, just my body shape. So I am hoping to lose those inches and feel more alert. :)

Monday is usually my first FS for the wek - but had a c**p weekend eating wise one way or another. Not overindulgence just very scrappy meals. Out most of yesterday & when we got back too tired to have the slow cooked Gammon so having it today as its cold & snowing & I need some 'proper' food. I shall just reshuffle my days. God I love this diet, its so accomodating ;)

Haven't checked in for a while, hope everyone is getting on ok.

Still haven't found a way to eat enough food on the 5:2 not to kick off my problems which is a real shame.

But I am okay with the 16:8 and I am THRILLED to report I have finally lost a little weight.

I am -4kg and since 2 kg is my water weight buffer that means I have lost 2kg

    :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j :j

    :D

I really began to think I would never lose any, been doing 16:8 for around 6 months and had lots of ups and downs in that time, so am chuffed.

Roll on summer because it is always easy not to eat when it's hot, stick to a salad etc.

Hello :). Am on a fast day today but think I shall struggle. I last ate at 5.30 yesterday and was up til 1am. Then got up at 11.45 am today. Have so far had 3 cups of coffee and a black tea. About to go and fetch the kids from school. Doesn't sound too bad does it? But I'm on a night shift tonight so I have only got 468 calories to last me through until 8.30 tomorrow morning ! I shall do my best but I have a feeling that protein is going to be out of the window today completely or I'll never manage. If I do get too hungry then I will eat though because I have a very active job (usually, some nights it's dead but it's Monday so we'll be heaving). And I will be no use to the rest of the team if I pass out half way through the night!

I'm on shifts too and started 5:2 three weeks ago. I've sat and tried to do all kinds of variations of time to get the 24/36 hours + 500 cal combination but confused myself.

The main thing for me was being on night shift and awake IYSWIM. Because most people have dinner on Day 1, sleep, eat 500 cals day 2, sleep and eat again on breakfast day 3. I was trying to do the same thing but working overnight meant it wasn't working for me and I was eating more than the 500 calories and seemed to be going days without eating properly.

So this week I'm doing the following:

Today is a fast day as I'm not working so 500 cals today.

Tuesday - working overnight and eating normally.

Wednesday - I'll eat when I get home from work in the morning, not a full blown dinner but a sandwich or something. Then sleep and count the 500 cals through my night shift until Thursday morning. Then I sleep again and have a normal dinner Thursday night. So I get my two sleeps in:D

In theory this will work but I'll see how I get on.

I was fine last Monday because I worked Sunday and Monday night so I just counted in between my nights as my normal day IYSWIM. My problem arises on the first night shift because I'm effectively up for around 24 hours so don't get a sleep period in my fast!
Oh we'll, I shall just see how I get on :o.
